    Commercial Popcorn

I don't LOVE air popped corn, but I can't stand the taste of the chemicals in nuked, so I air pop it when I want a fix now now now. It's good for a quick snack for the kids too/

    Commercial Popcorn

Couldn't you grind it up and then feed it to the birds? Just wondering... how did you pop it? I know my dh loves homemade popcorn made on the stove with oil, but with the air popper will only eat it when drenched with Real Butter.

    Fresh corn!

It is a 50 lb bag of "cleaned corn". Technically, I'm in the hudson valley, but the catskills border is within walking distance.

    Fresh corn!

I just got 50 lbs of fresh, locally grown, organic corn for making into cornbread, cornmeal mush and... well... I don't know what else to do with it. I have a grain mill and can do coarse through fine. All suggestions welcome!!! I think this weekend, I'm going to try making Indian Pudding!

What did you do to save $ today?

That sounded depressing, though :( Can you make some homemade kettle corn or a treat to make up for not going to something fun? We're making s'mores around the fireplace tonight! Speaking of which... have you guys made marshmallowss? Tonight's are store bought but Ohhhhh, homemade are...

What did you do to save $ today?

There are a *few* things at Aldi's that I like that can save me money, but most of their food is highly processed and IMO not very good quality. I would buy milk and butter there, if I couldn't afford organic that week, and I'd get frozen broccoli from them because it seemed on par with the...

What did you do to save $ today?

Let's see. What did I do today. 1) We have the second floor's thermostat off, since the only rooms up there are the kids' mostly unused bedrooms. We have the first floor set to 55 and are sleeping in the rooms heated by the wood stove, which we're fueling with wood left for us by the...

    Wood burner insert?

I don't know where you live but the cheapest I've seen for a 4x4x8 cord was 185 and usually 200+.

    Wood burner insert?

I was logging in to learn more about this thing in my living room! We rent a house and in our living room is a fireplace with a wood stove insert. We've turned the heat on the rest of the house down to 55. We've slept comfortably in the living room with all of the doors closed for a few days...

Home heating the old fashioned (free) way!

My husband asked me a couple of months ago if we could dry the used wood shavings from the barn (chickens and ducks) and burn those in the wood stove. I laughed... but could it be done?

Can I see your bread? Post your loaf's photo.

We made pizza pockets with yeasted bread dough. Probably not what you wanted, but I had to share. They're extra fresh since we bought the wheat at a local mill and ground it ourselves! The kids' pockets have sauce and cheese. DH has sauce, cheese & veggies cooked with italian spices and...

    For women only please!

I don't have enough good to say about http://community.livejournal.com/diy_pads/. They have photos, tutorials, experts to ask for help, you name it. Also, if you go find someone who sews homemade diapers, you may be able to get cheap or free PUL scraps that are too small to make into dipes. I...

    Wood stove starterss

I want to make fire starters for dh for the woodstove to give him for Chanukah. I was thinking of making them and wrapping them in giftwrap and just tossing them whole, wrap and all, into the wood stove. I think the kids would have a lot of fun making them. Then I looked for recipes online...

    Ball Blue Book.. opinions....

That's the problem. Not everybody DOES agree that those end products taste good. I prefer low sugar stuff *for the flavor*. I am not concerned about the health aspect of the amount in some jam.

    Spicey popcorn...

no no no!!! Brewer's yeast is brown granules -- very good for B vitamins but nasty tasting. Nutritional yeast is a yellow flaky powder that is said to taste like cheese (I don't think so but I'm in the minority). Also very good for you. but don't get them mixed up!!! It is sold in the UK...
