May I suggest finding a small sheep rancher to sell you a lamb for butcher? Much cheaper and probably taste better. We raise just a few which started as a 4-h/ffa project. Has also become one of our favorite meats. I just season with garlic and italian seasoning and yum yum.
It has been very warm for Wyoming so I know I am behind. But when hunting season starts I kick it into gear and start getting my birds in, lights up, goats into breeding pens, propane tank filled, and wome of the winterizing of the house. Then I knit like crazy for that extra wool covering.
Iwill remember that. I am planning on expanding my breeds and have looked at them just haven't decided. I have family just south of Sun Valley and anytime I have an excuse to go see them it is great. They are poultry freaks too.
Good idea. I am from Wyoming. I will go to pretty much any connecting state. I was thinking about going to the chicken show and auction in Boise Id next month but my aunt and uncle can't go with me now so that may be out. I was hopin to find something there.
I lost my bourban red hens to a racoon. I lost the racoon to a shot gun. I am looking for some hens and am willing to drive within reason. I am also looking for a Merrema puppy. I am tired of feeding my birds to the critters.
Thanks for the good ideas. I had never heard of any natural wormers. I know that getting the worms saves money in the long run, earlier butchering and all. Next year I will have to try some of those ideas!
I drink raw goats milk and raw cow milk. I like the taste better and it helps my stomach. Like everyone has said, just wash your equipment. Pasturizing goat milk changes the flavor. If you are really concerned you can always have the milk tested for bacterial counts.
Even though in Wyoming, it is far too early to think about canning, my tomato plants are doing awesome so I hope to can this year. Thanks for the wonderful pointers.
I am not sure why they make it so hard. I do have 7 more at the moment. Born on the wire but I put them in the box and they are doing well so far but are only 2 days old so we'll see. Rabbit is very similar to chicken, stringier and drier but very healthy due to low fat content, and yummy.
Well my dreams turned to nightmares last night when one doe decided to use her nesting box to smash all but 3 babies. She didn't feed them and lost one more today. I was hesitant to take the box out because she used it as a safe haven to get away from her babies. She is also is very nasty to...
Finally, finally, finally. I have been having rabbit breding problems all year. 2 does thought there babies would be better born on the floWor and left alone, one thought it would be a good idea to up and die when her kits were 2 weeks old. I think at least 2 of them have figured out how to...
