I used to breed my own but when I got a regular job to support what was at the time a hobby I found myself working more and more hours as the years went by and when I got the job I have now I was given full-time and stopped breeding and even selling. Then my birds got too old to breed and died...
Miss Prissy I think has some goose recipes on BYC. And she sugguested looking for victorian era recipes. I'm getting more curious to try eating goose so I think I will sacrifice one gosling for Christmas. I'm going to look around and see what kind of recipes I can find and leave some links here...
Wow! 400? The most i've kept is 200.
Well there are a few advantages of different birds. Though it can be tricky. I keep a little of everything and sell them at my shop. I usually have something that someone is looking for. A lot of the birds can be fed the same feed though some require their...
I planned to eat one and breed the rest. And this is pretty much the last hatch for the year for this hatchery and almost every other one as well. I'm going to sex them when they come in tomorrow. I might just go ahead and eat one I'm just worried about having enough to breed for next year. They...
Well the hatchery called and they had a poor hatch rate for most of the goslings on my order and they will only be sending four. So pretty much my cooking plans have gone south unless I get an extra male or two.
Pheasants are something I would love to have! I tried to hatch eggs unsuccessfully this year and by the time I gave up on eggs and tried to get chicks the season for chicks is over already.
Yeah I raise birds for sell. It's my second job and a nice bit of income.
Okay I asked a goose expert...
Hehe... I'm a big bird person! I have just about everything in the size range of quail to geese on my farm. And Turkeys are soon... to take over my farm too! They just don't stop! They're everywhere!
If you can't handle the birds then all means get someone else to. One or two geese shouldn't be...
Yup! That is why I wanted a goose. I've seen and heard so much about plump Christmas geese on the table from others and movies I'm curious to try it. I also love a good duck ala orange. I kinda figure too that it should have a taste close to duck.
Either way we probably will find out lol. I...
I have two old bottles of red wine that are tasting a bit sour and I heard somewhere that you can make vinegar from old wine. Does anyone know how it is done?
Same here. I was tempted several times throughout the years to buy a goose from the supermarket. Everytime I thought of it I would back out. I did eventually try my hand at cooking ducks and really liked it and was going to try goose but the market stopped selling them by then. I'm going to be...
I wouldn't mind trying it. I'm raising up an Embden for a Christmas goose and have a good amount of other geese to pair off. Just though...how many geese does it take to really start getting enough down to be worthwhile?
At work we sell chain by the foot and it comes in these plastic tubs we always throw out. I was looking at one today and kept thinking it is about the right size for a nest box for my quail. I am now figuring how I'm going to cut one of the sides open and fix the lid so it's easier to open and...
If you have a Home Depot near you we have a free recycle program. Just take your CFLs to the returns desk and we will take them for you. We started this up when we started selling the bulbs.
