So much for safe nuke power

Not to pee on anyone's parade regarding "safe" nuclear power, but Japan gets earthquakes ALL THE TIME. That's why many of their buildings are engineered the way they are. It's not a question on how safe nuclear power is, it's a question of WHY IN GOD'S NAME DID SOMEONE DECIDE TO BUILD NUCLEAR...

    Interesting Japanese Observation

It's the Japanese! They were playing video games on Sunday :D Seriously, I saw a news article on it. They just go about their daily lives. Heck, when I called my friend, Tomo, to make sure she and her family were okay, she informed me that everyone was fine but she was a bit scared. She said...

    Husband doesn't want to homeschool?

I have always been a big supporter of homeschooling. I even tried to convince my mother to let me home school myself in high school (that didn't happen). DH KNOWS how I feel about public and private schools but he keeps putting his foot down that our kids will go to public school. He says we...

East vs. West ... and a little bit of bragging on my kid

Speaking as a coddled westerner I can tell you I barely passed high school and I have flunked out of 3 different colleges. :-) By the time I got my Associates I put the screws to myself and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I WISH my mother had been tougher on me, but she let me give up if I didn't...

    Stinky he washer

wait a second. I have an old washer and we NEVER have stank issues. Are you telling me that ya'll have HE washers that eventually get "the stank" and Tide has now come out with a product to fight "the stank"? well if that isn't just convenient... *adjusts tinfoil hat*

Raw Milk Formula recipe and ingrediant kits

I want to second both Tortoise AND BB. Raw milk CAN be dangerous. However, it's also incredibly good for you. I LOVE raw milk (in fact I'm enjoying a glass of it right now) but I also know exactly who I get my milk from, I've pet their cows and seen their farm. I've also seen what a...

    kombucha scooby ?

oh my god that's terrible looking. I have a thick little SCOBY if you want it. It was first made in a quart jar so it's small, but it'll make a nice big daughter for you. PM me, let me know. I have SCOBYs coming out my ears, at the moment!

    Are CSA Worth It

Here is the nitty gritty, written for farmers interested in starting a CSA. It'll give you an insight into what they have to consider as far as how much to give and how to price it. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/chatham/ag/SustAg/csaguide.html ETA: there's probably little to no cost savings with...

    Struggling Family in Economy

The mentality of these people is ridiculous. When your 9 YEAR OLD is calling the roof you put over her head "such a crappy apartment" there's an issue. Not to mention, why do people think children each need their own separate space? My brother and I shared a room until I hit puberty and once...

    Micro Plantation.

Stack as much as humanly possible. I have a large garden, but I also grow a LOT in containers on my back patio. I'm lucky enough to have south facing windows so all my herbs grow inside. I have a blood orange tree, a lemon tree and a lime tree that are inside fruit trees. I have window boxes...

So we have this grain bin...

Mother Earth News had an article several months back about turning these in houses. I'm thinking, bed and breakfast? I do like the pool idea though.

    Uses for dehydrator...need ideas

I found an interesting "how -to" online for dehydrating fruits and veggies for use as baby food. You would mill the food as usual, add some water and pour it out very thinly in the dehydrator then dehydrate until it was brittle. Then you pulverize it and store it in a zip-loc baggie and...

    Grocery Spreadsheet

I was wondering if anyone who uses a spreadsheet for tracking/budgeting their purposes would be willing to share the general layout of their document? I want to start tracking, and I can use excel but when it comes to the layout, I'm at a loss and I need some ideas. Thanks in advance!

    selling homemade kombucha?

does anyone sell their kombucha? I know that people sell extra SCOBYs, but what are the legalities of selling the drink itself? I've been making mine for several months and I always have a LOT in the house because I'm the only one who drinks it. Since I will have a stall at the farmer's market...

How are the gas prices in your area?

Last night it was $3.25, but I saw some stations changing to $3.35. Hubby says that it's likely to hit $3.50 soon because Khadafi is a nutcase. I'm in western PA, btw.

    workers acting like children

First off, it's facebook. I'm a huge believe in not "friend-ing" your co-workers to begin with. All it takes is for one person to feel slighted and then your personal life can get blabbed all around the office. Secondly it sounds to me that she's deleting the people she doesn't want to know...
