Aly, do you have the state vet out then to do swabs? Just wondering how this works in Ohio. I have thought about becoming NPIP certified, but always moving chickens in and out invalidates it. Besides I have my pollorum testing license so not much use for NPIP papers.:) I just test as I need...
I don't vaccinate my kiddos. Well even that isn't entirely true, my daughter has some of vaccinations, but my son has none. I wanted to wait until my children were a year and after a year of fighting with the doc every time we went in. The doc finally called us and said that they would no longer...
My mom always used an ammonia solution during spring cleaning. It was just like a chlorine solution. Sorry can't give you the exact ratio, but I think it was like one glug to a bucket and then fill it with really warm or even up to as hot as you could stand and use a bristle brush to clean.
Love the last pic with the sunset. How pretty. What are you planning on doing with the milk? I've got to make cheese tomorrow. DH has asked for stuffed shells.
Hello,
I'm jumping in under my Wife's user name. (I hope no one cares)
I have a few ideas for you path.
You could use Creeping Thyme
or Irish Moss
to make a nice "green path". You could even save the pieces of of your old walk to make a nice stepping stone path.
I would also like to suggest...
No sorry didn't even think about it. Just normal part of life. ;) I will get pictures next time. We counted about 6 more that still needed done so I will remember the camera.
Well went to K's today. He had some shearing that needed done. The Border Leicester cross lambs were getting a tad bit long and he decided today was as good a day as any. We got through 12 of them. We did do 3 of the Lincoln x Wenslydale crosses. We left the ewe lamb so that she could be shown...
I kind of have to disagree with this. If you look for a goat line that is bred for milk they do not necessarily have to bred every year. I have a goat that will go almost 2yrs on her lactation and I've heard of many homesteaders who do this. You are correct that it has to be looked at...
I haven't had a problem with growing strawberries. The hardest part I have found is keeping them where I want them. The plan now is to get them in a raised bed of their own. Our's is putting off shoots like mad. DH has the shoots in pots waiting for the raised bed and the mother plant still in...
Went to visit dad and family today. My younger sister has a daughter that is 3months younger than my daughter. They are both 4yrs old. DS was exclaiming on how smart her daughter was and how head start is putting her in the advanced learning classes. When I began to ask questions about what all...
Went and visited this evening with Dad sis' and brothers. They are in from Kansas for the week. It's fun seeing them as I only get to once a year. Brother #2 shared with me their experiences with butchering their first chickens. Quite interesting to say the least. Gave them a couple of hints for...
2bz,
we just started strawberries this year and haven't had any problems yet. The are getting shoots all over the place. DH is going to make a raised bed to put them in. We live in swamp soil so deal with a little bit of blue clay. The only hard part I've found about growing strawberries is...
Oh it can be done. When I was a child we lived in a trailer park with 1/4 acre lots and my parents still had a garden and rabbits. On 3/4 of an acre don't think big garden plant your crops right up along the house in your flower bed. Chickens and rabbits don't take a lot of space. A family of...
My 4yr old DD has decided that she is going to raise Polish chickens. What interesting conversations we have with farm children. They'd rather have a turkey or chicken than a dog. LOL
Have fun at Mt. Hope today. Wish I could've gone:( Was thinking about sending some stuff, but didn't get it caught up.
Just read the post about the BLRW's. I love them:bow wish I had more than just he one hen that I do have. I have been trying to get some, but really can't afford them and...
