Ya'll should read "The Foxfire Book." It places pork fat at near Olympian status.

    The Voice of Personal Wealth...

One never knows what life may bring. There are no guarantees. No one can stop the truth, no one can stop what is in the cards from being dealt. Not you, not I, not the President - no one. But it is a lot easier to handle the hand you are dealt if you are cash rich. I'm not talking "wealthy" here...

    Dumpster Diving

College dorms at end of semester. What a great idea! I wonder if the hired strong arms will toss me out - one way to find out. I don't need to dumpster dive anymore - but I love it. I snag anything useful I can find. I use it, refurbish and re-purpose it or sell it on ebay.

My mom used to fry bacon, stir in some vinegar and a little sugar - then pour the hot dressing over spinach.

Old timers saved "renderings" to make soap. Fat is one of the key ingredients in soap, and pork fat is some of the best, giving a smooth result. Other uses included lubricating wooden bearings, like in wagon wheels or turning lathes, and to make gravy and season vegetables. Unless I miss my...

Where and how did you learn how to:

I don't self medicate unless it is something run of the mill, or familiar. If I want to go herbal, I use the Herb Bible and the Foxfire books.

TO not give up. First, get mad at the same old broke-ass thinking, the same old bad habits and the same old blaming everyone but yourself for your situation. Then make a change. Take on other jobs, keep driving the same car, go back to school, etc. It is gradual and there will be set backs...

    The Voice of Personal Wealth...

Some of you may know Ive been reading the "Foxfire" series of books, lately. One thing that continually leaps from the pages is how every one of the old timer's interviewed remember how much better life was. They had nothing, by our standards - no money, little worldly wealth, and only each...

    The Voice of Personal Wealth...

No one said it's easy. After all if it was, everybody'd be doin' it. But if we can create universal health care, then we can hold out for this, eh?

PHRASE ORIGINS - Can you guess?

These common words and phrases stem from the 1500's. I don't know if this stuff is true - but it sure sounds good. Someone will research it and let us know if there are errors, I'm certain. For now, have fun: They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot &...

No one in the Ramsey Camp suggests that you shouldn't spend money. FAR from it, in fact. What they advocate is you do not spend money you DO NOT have.

Kinda what I was thinking. I wonder if there is another version of the Ramsey stuff that I haven't seen. :) ...In addition to that what kind of lifestyle are you talking about. There is more to life than just having money in the bank. Some things are more fun to experience at age 30 than at age...

Letter to Obama from 4th Grade Teacher

So the moral of the story is that the Puritans didn't fulfill their contract. It was ok as long as things were easy but when they found out they had to work hard it wasn't enough.... That is one moral one can take from the tale, I suppose. There are others, certainly. This is where perception...

Letter to Obama from 4th Grade Teacher

My biggest concern is that doctors as 'salaried employees' of the State will be like most salaried employees - lackluster, although adequate and occasionally great. Excellence is proven to be mitigated under the sponsored system, since the sponsoree has little personal investment in his...

    The Voice of Personal Wealth...

To be fair, I've become a millionaire already - just on my wages over the last 30 years. That I don't have that fortune in hand is due to several things: I haven't managed it as well as I might have, nor have I lived below my means enough, until recently. Truthfully, we must all eat and pay...

    The Voice of Personal Wealth...

See, one of the great things about Mr Ramsey is that he says he doesn't tell you anything that you cant already learn from the Bible and your grandmother. You are right, his message isnt new. But the good ones don't always have to be. We occasionally stumble over the truth... but most of us...

Letter to Obama from 4th Grade Teacher

Eric Hoffer once wrote that great national strategies are built on four fundamentals; Perception Perspective Patience Prosecution Perception either skews or clarifies facts. Some claim that health care is for those who put in to the system. Others perceive our moral responsibility to care for...

Letter to Obama from 4th Grade Teacher

Well, seems that is what my options are these days: I am either in favor or the devil incarnate for having some healthy skepticism. You know, it has always been the duty of the citizen in a free republic to question the motives of his leaders in government. It is one of the hallmarks of the...
