The thing is, even if gay marriage were made perfectly legal, churches would still have the right to refuse to marry gay people. Just like, right now, Jewish people getting married is legal, but the Catholic church doesn't perform marriages for them. That is right and fair, even; churches have...
Basic polenta (just cornmeal, water, salt, and maybe some butter and/or cream and/or cheese) is the best thing to go under a meaty stew. I mean, sometimes rice or pasta or potatoes are good too. But on a cold winter day, a bowl of polenta topped with a hearty stew is just so satisfying and...
Dace, the beer-battered fish sounds just AWESOME. If only I wasn't landlocked with the nearest fish market an hour away. Frozen fish could work though...
I've never tried the beer chicken... maybe I'll have to give it a shot! I've had beef stew with beer as the liquid... mmmmmmmmm.
Anybody have any good ideas for what I should do with some cheap, gross beer that I won't drink? My father-in-law was in town, and he bought some really cheap beer of a sort that my wife and I just can't stomach... and then only drank one. So what should I do with it?
I've made beer bread in...
ooooh, if you figure out how to make one, share! I'm not so good with electric things, but maybe if it's not TOO complicated... That would be super cool.
Me too! To be honest, I think it's just made up. I've never met anyone who was "politically correct" and believe me, I hang out with some seriously oversensitive liberal people. :) But it's such an annoying term. Gah.
Great idea! I'll have to think about doing that!
In a similar vein, this is WAAAAAY too expensive, but someone I know has this little contraption for their kid's room, and I always wish I'd find one somewhere for NOT 40 bucks:
Moon Jar
If the conversation is making people uncomfortable, I'm happy to stop. I thought it was kind of an interesting one... people clearly coming from very different perspectives, explaining their point-of-view in a pretty polarizing issue... but we all seem to be pretty nice about it all. But I...
I honestly don't know much about the American Humanists, but I don't think that makes my reaction to the ad any less valid. The American Humanists might have many other views that would be off-putting to me, but this isn't one of them, and it's all I know of the group. Perhaps I shouldn't be...
Sorry if that's how I came off. I totally didn't mean it as an educational thing at all. I, in fact, don't agree with what the bus says either. All I meant to say was that you said they were saying "God doesn't exist" just to incite anger. And I was saying that they're saying it not to...
Well, to be a bit contrary here, someone saying they'd rather you re-word your greetings is not at all violating your freedom of speech. They're just suggesting you say it differently. Violating your freedom of speech would be if you got a ticket and a hefty fine for saying it.
Like, when my...
YAAAAY! Well you're welcome! I love that brownie recipe because it's so simple and cheap, and just uses cocoa powder but somehow tastes better than you'd think. I actually just grabbed it off the side of a fancy cocoa powder box from the gourmet food store once!
Update: 4 cases of formula purchased, on the week that the store just HAPPENED to have a sale: $2 off each can! SCORE!
Otherwise:
Big stressful week coming up. My mom's been sick with terminal brain cancer for a little over 4 years now. Gave her 4-6 months to live back then, and here we are...
My baby's 8 months old. All she can DO is play, so we play! I'll be curious to see how she is down the road with all that stuff. I'd very much like to be a playing kind of dad, and I sure like to play games myself... but we shall see. In the meanwhile, it's easy to play with an 8-month-old...
It's $1.96 here! On the one hand, I think that's great news, and such a relief to those who need it. On the other hand, it was so nice that everyone was seriously considering alternative energy sources for a while there, and the talk seems to be dying down now, which bums me out. Hopefully it...
If the problem is consistently flat loaves, I'd try adding some more yeast, and maybe starting with warmer water (around 100 degrees F) if you're not already doing that.
Otherwise, may the bread force be with you.
We used to be a 65 in the day, 55 at night kind of husband and wife. But since we've added the baby... well, not so much. We're doing 68 all the time now, to make sure she's warm enough but still try to keep bills down a little bit.
