    Jersey girl here!

Hey! I just noticed this! I grew up in Monmouth County NJ myself.... lived there from birth until age 17. Parents still out there... nifty!

    Trading Places

Punkin, please don't worry about that at ALL. Like I said, FUNNY joke! I like the pregnant punch line especially. I just was being prodded for a response, so I gave one, which was perhaps a bit of a tangent. But seriously, you are in NO WAY stepping on anyone's toes by telling a funny joke...

What to make with leftover Pot Roast?

Miss_thenorth and Cassandra, The pronunciation thing is that it's a Pasty, rhymes with Nasty. But when you write Pasties, it looks the same as those things go-go dancers wear, even though you pronounce it PASS-teez. It's not really like a hot pocket... more like a thick stew wrapped in dough...

    Trading Places

Just to be perfectly clear... I don't at all intend to be a crankypants. The joke is funny! People just thought I'd have a response, and I couldn't help but oblige. :D

    storing baked goods?

On another note, biscotti keep for a few weeks, and are good when kind of dry... better for dipping in coffee or wine. Mmm.

    Trading Places

All right, if my reaction is being asked for, I'll give it! But it's going to be random scattered thoughts. So here goes: > > 'Dear Lord: I go to work every day and > > put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at home. Well, duh! First big mistake. "Merely" staying at home is ridiculous...

    Honey Questions?

I've heard that using metal utensils in the honey makes it crystallize faster, which is why they sell those wooden honey dippers. Do any of you who know stuff about honey know if that's true?

    Locally Grown produce

I love that! I'm stuck with a really crappy grocery store here in town, and have to drive quite a way for a decent one... but this really awful store just started carrying a few local things, so they're a bit less awful! I mean, this time of year, it's just apples and squash... but it's a start.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but...

Applesauce is actually the first thing I ever canned myself, and it's way easy. So yes! Applesauce ahoy! yaaaaaaay!

Cooking with less meat ideas? (to save money)

Sounds good! Now I want red beans and rice! Or maybe tuna-noodle stuff... mmm tuna noodley goodness... Another thought I had is sticking with the really flavorful meats when you want to stretch, because then you can use less of them. Like, half a pound of chicken breast might get lost in a...

    Soup Recipes--Your Fav!

Oooh, I make a soup kind of like that, with white beans and garlic, and it's just delicious. Mmmmm. Here's my variation: 1 cup dry cannellini beans, soaked overnight a whole head of garlic cloves, peeled a big bunch of sage leaves olive oil (1/2 pound spinach leaves) (or sliced, cooked...

    ScottyG and some random thoughts

I am exhausted today, and not even for any good reason. My lovely wife (for some reason, I just can't get myself to use the DW or DD abbreviations, etc... they just look weird to me) let me sleep in a little this morning while she played with the baby, because I took the midnight waking last...

Where did your life take you today?

Me have headache. Me stomach not feel good. Me take nap.

Problem with our neighbors and the location of their deer stand...

Along the lines of what Pat+chix said, but far more juvenile, and not actually recommended: Perhaps you should just, on the edge of your property line, put a cheap radio on, and tune it to a "lite rock" station, or maybe Heavy Metal, or NPR... all day long. You know, because it's your...

    solar heat from pop cans

Neat! Very sophisticated idea, but reminds me of the simple trick a friend used to use (that the gardening types here probably already know) where he put 2-liter bottles full of water around his tomato plants... so the water would heat up in the sun all day, and then keep the 'maters pretty...

    I cheated....I made cupcakes.................

That's funny, Q_A, I've never made brownies from a mix, but cake? Sometimes cake mix just hits the spot. A friend's husband is a professional chef, and he admits to using cake mixes (and then messing with them) in his fancy restaurant. There's all sorts of interesting chemical leavening...

Tomorrow I hope my baby's sleep schedule is able to adjust to standard time.

    From the Outside Looking in

I hear what everyone is saying, and certainly your opinions are valid and very real. But I just wanted to share a few thoughts from a different side of this. I guess the main point I'd like to make is that the social / sharing aspect of this forum is one of its strengths, in my opinion. If I...
