Usual here. Slow at get up & then out the door. Still in coffee mode, things ready to grab, then go milk. I'm pretty tired of clouded skies & rainy days. Surely the sun is still up there! Sow yourself 🌞
Another work day. Better get to chores & leave.
Rats like horseradish?? Who knew? 😂 It can be very spicy.... Glad enough root base left to grow.
Here, only hopes for a garden 😕 too wet to till. Hay field across street is getting over ripe -- it'll be stemmy. Most farmers got corn in 3 wks ago & it's loving this weather!! 👍👍 Good for that.
Definitely will go after chicks. But my ninja hens take action fast and furious! My chickens free range, my cats are 7 feral, & 3 wandered in tame. They do hunt mice but give my chickens space. In fact...leave them alone and walk right on by them.
I seem to be an animal whispering pantry pepper.
Does that mean I'm saying unmentionable things as I fill the shelves?? Or cussing about the tomatoes and bean plants they ate, or suggesting the chicken I just canned was one too many & needed gone....😱🤷
Hmmm. Lots of thought. Not what they...
Set some eggs!! Shell mother her own, not those you bought. Sometimes if they're setting a nest, you can slip a couple just hatched chicks under her at night & she may take them.
Silkies seem to be a "village" for parent sharing 🤣
Coffee is great. Up early -- extra chores....hen & chicks to feed, newly bought pullets in pen to feed/water, out to barn to milk a goat. So back in with another half gal of beautiful milk. I see "room in frig" starting. A gal a day is a lot. She'll increase, too. Usually 1.5+ for her at...
Actually I think not. But that's fine! I can pen them when eggs come and have purebred BO chicks. Ya know how it goes . Real kicker is I thought it was a 4 pack but, when I pd saw it was a 5 pack. Ya bid per and times # in container. Hadn't looked earlier, so still happy.
I'm soooo late starting! So yesterday at the livestock auction I bought 13 tomato plants, $1 ea. About 2 ft tall .... Plus 5 -- 9 wk old buff orp pullets $8 ea. 👍👍. Just as taking from trailer -- that had taken a load of bucklings to sell! 🤣. No need to come home empty. Nice check came home...
I don't give them away that soon 😁 if at all.
My cream legbars are color sexed at hatch 👍 marans not, RIR not....so wait a couple weeks and wing feathering can help.
I bought 11 chicks 2 yr ago, have lost 3 old hens over past 6 mos & a few oldsters still here. So, I figure it's time to add...
I bought a dz hatching eggs at auction yesterday, $7. RIRxMarans. So I'll set incubator, prob add some of own hens eggs & wonder why I'd ventured on that ordeal again, as I spend a couple months watching, then mothering chicks 😵💫. Already wondering
It's so sad to wait and have losses. Others have reported issues with chick & duckling shipment losses this year. Probably more than I've heard in a while.
Here, the Dollar General tosses some & donates some. Most donations are because a group/food bank has asked the mgr and does pick up. There's often cases of crackers, cookies, cereals, coffee & creamers, close dated milk, etc. usually these are a few days before or a month over....for most...
