repainting textured ceiling? UPDATE -- done, but broke ceiling fan :/

To clarify -- it wasn't the whole ceiling that came down on Susan (not plaster or drywall), it was the texturing material. Apparently it took leave of the underlying plaster-or-drywall-or-whatever and just dropped off all over. Pat

repainting textured ceiling? UPDATE -- done, but broke ceiling fan :/

This is something you rent at a rent-a-tools place, or what? If I spray, am I going to have problems with the fact that it's a large and furnished room that I just CANNOT vacate and probably can't cover all the walls, I can put plastic over the part of the floor I'm actually working over but...

What can I do with grapefruit?

Well, you could always, you know, eat them LOL They can be good added to fruit salad if people don't like them "straight up". Juice them and make granita/ice/etc type thing. Juice them, mix approx equal parts of grapefruit juice and soy sauce plus a bit of sweetener to taste (I use honey) and...

repainting textured ceiling? UPDATE -- done, but broke ceiling fan :/

Huh, now I was just talking to a friend (who, admittedly, is of the "why bother reading instructions first?" type persuasion, but still, does a lot of stuff around the house and is not a complete idiot, certainly has done plenty of utilitarian painting) and she says she tried painting this type...

repainting textured ceiling? UPDATE -- done, but broke ceiling fan :/

The living room and hallway ceilings in our house are that rough-textured finish, you know, very pointy and rough? (Not the 'i made swirls and curves with my trowel tool' type textured) The house is old enough that it's not entirely impossible there may be asbestos content in the texturing...

    Today's "to-do" list

A year or two ago, someone had a thread like this and I found that if I publicly posted the list of things I intended to get done during the day, I often got MUCH more done than when the list was just in my head or stuck to the fridge door. Well, right now I need to get a whoooole lotta stuff...

    bad chicken

I dunno, normally as long as it's just me-myself-and-I eating it, I'll eat some fairly funky meat in general, but I am not comfortable messin' around with off-smelling grocery-store poultry. One of the *very very* few times I've ever had food poisoning was from that. You can of course cook the...

    I am worried....

My just-turned-4 year old spent all this past week insisting he's actually 5 years old :P Pat

    Appliance Manufacturers! Come On!

They certainly exist in high-end and commercial (restaurant) versions. I think it's just that there's no cheapie "regular people" version. Pat

    Olive Oil And Storage...

You'll have to get it out with a knife -- it solidifes at fridge temperatures. (Well, not *solid*-solid, but like thick pea soup, can't pour it out of the bottle) Pat

    New Here.... Need Advice

BTW, while it does taste (and often look) better if you do brown your meat before you put it in the crockpot, it is ALMOST as good if you just put it in there plain-nekkid-raw. If you're trying to get it going before leaving for work in the morning, this can be a real time-saver. Honestly, I am...

What a Difference a Year Makes

Oh wow, that is just too too cute. I love it. "There's no place like home..." Pat

    I am worried....

How is she with pattern/order of OTHER things. I mean, you should follow your own gut instincts, but personally I wouldn't tend to get too worried unless she showed little or no ability to learn OTHER things in order -- elements of a story, words of a song, order-of-operations of a task, being...

    Olive Oil And Storage...

I can't imagine why you couldn't freeze it. Fats/oils generally freeze fine. It doesn't prevent rancidity forever but can give you at *least* 2x-3x the "lifespan" of the stuff. Go do it, and report back to us in a few years :) Pat

    New Here.... Need Advice

You don't even need to make cleaning products... there are not many cleaning problems in life that cannot be solved with old-fashioned water (temperature depending on circumstance), scrubbing, and maybe a bit of soap or a *dot* of dish detergent, and strong vinegar for getting hard-water...

What a good idea, if you have plastic bottles.

It's clever I guess, but wouldn't a rubberband or twist-tie or old barrette work just as well and for MANY more uses? We generate only about four of those little water bottles per year (and that's when my husband gets them), and I use them to stuff into dog tuggies where they make a nice...

need advice on gait/mechanics/muscles re: butt and heel pain

LOL, yes, I completely agree! :) Well, I *think* I more or less kinda know -- but if you would like to outline it or point me to a source that does, I would sure appreciate it, because I KNOW I don't know LOTS about it, and for all I know what I DO "know" could be totally wrong :P (My general...

need advice on gait/mechanics/muscles re: butt and heel pain

I should clarify -- the "very" painful I was referring to was largely that on Friday I was having a long unpleasant discussion with my husband (who as a result is taking a short "leave of absence" from the household but will be back Friday, *hopefully* constructively, sigh :/) and was standing...

    Chicken People should read this

No, sorry, Aspergillus is a MOLD, inhalation of the spores of which can cause the disease aspergillosis, in both humans and poultry. Google it for more. You don't catch it from the chickens; you and/or the chickens catch it from mold in the henhouse. Pat
