BTW, I LOVE my wooden molds!!!! :love They made slicing the soap so darn easy and the soap was nice and light colored, not darkening or anything. I'll post pics tomorrow!
krisac, why don't you tell us exactly what you're doing in detail and maybe we can help you figure out what is going wrong. Tell us exactly what measurements of exactly which ingredients, which type of utensils, pots, etc you are using. I just started making soap and I'm finding it way easier...
I don't even use a thermometer anymore, just my finger. When the milk is warm but not so hot I can't keep my finger in it, then it should be fine. My last batch came out a little runny, so I added vanilla and maple syrup and have a yummy yogurt drink. :P
Seasoned hardwood is easily $150 a cord here. Bee, have you looked into slab wood? If there are any sawmills around you they may have some cheaper, and it's usually always hardwood. We burned slabwood for YEARS with no problems.
I agree 100%. I also don't appreciate the attitude that if we don't think the world is going to end and society is going to be wiped out that we're in denial. Just because we have different outlooks on life doesn't mean we're uneducated or stupid about things. People can make...
I made a 4 lb batch last night (Tropical Vacation Scent) with my new wood mold and I'm so excited!!! :weee I'll cut it tonight and see how it did! :weee Smells wonderful!

Eh, generation after generation has complained that society was going to hell in a handbasket and it's always going to be that way. For some reason when people get older they suddenly think things were so much better when they were kids, probably because they were too young to realize what was...
FF, the definitions you posted differ from the ones in my soap book. Cold process is where the oils are melted ahead of time, and mixed with the water(or milk) and lye, then poured into a mold. Hot process is where the ingredients are heated after mixing.
Well, we took both kiddos to the library yesterday and they finally got their own library cards. They also picked out a few of their own books. We got a couple off the "third grade favorites" reading list they had, one was The Chocolate Touch and the other was Mr. Popper's Penguins (both...
I'd be totally pissed and would want to go read him the riot act. BUT, I think what may be better instead is to go over there and say, "I know you've been dumping your unwanted cats in our yard. This has to stop because we can't afford to keep taking care of your animals and finding homes for...
Yes, they're getting reading shoved down their throats by all this homework and they're choking on it! We had been reading the Little House series, which everyone loved (I want to read Farmer Boy again!) but then we stopped when we got busy with other stuff. I'll have to pick up those books...
