Howdy from the Big Belt Mountains of Montana

Welcome to SS. Glad you are off grid. Wish that I was. I am like hoosier-not enough wind, too much shade and no body of running water handy. :welcome

    Stock up alert!

Are you using Bless your heart in the "funny Southern sayings" way?.... :lau 'Cause we all know what that means, God Love you. Now to return to our regularly scheduled topic. My Kroger will put pasta on sale 2X a year for about $.48/pound usually in the fall. I really stock up then.

Who The Best Prices on Whole Powdered Eggs /????

I think if you look at the servings per can of the EE eggs vs. Augason Farms, the EE works out to be cheaper. IMO. Those buggers are expensive. I have a few cans in case someone steals my chickens! :barnie

    Kala's Journal~Newest Project :)

Kala- you are so right. Time for Mr. Roo to go to freezer camp. There are too many roos out there who can behave. Good Luck doing the deed. ;)

    Deficit Issue

i_am2bz- I wasn't disagreeing with you at all. Most politicians (all?) don't have the spine to do what needs to be done. We have made running for office such a circus that good folks, like Mitch Daniels, won't put his family through the wringer. You are right about the people getting...

    Deficit Issue

Yep, when the "more for free" bunch stops getting their "check" they will riot in the streets. I think that until the sacared cow of entitlements is addressed, you cannot fix the deficit. There is a great video with pennies and govt spending. As wasteful as some of these programs and grants...

Why are you stocking some items?

This is a very interesting thread. I guess that I am interested in being SS, because I feel that someday in the not so distant future, things are gonna change A LOT. If I had to make a distinction between prepper and ss, I would come down on the side of being a prepper. My dream in life is to...

    Emergency Preparedness

Barred Buff- If you are friends with any MDs or Dentists, etc you may want to see if they can write you and your family some scripts for a range of antibiotics, steriods, an epi-pen. I also have some quik clot to stop bleeding. I also stocked a lice comb, mouse traps and pool shock to...

    Deficit Issue

It is tough- DH & I are both executives who feel like we have a foot in two worlds- one populated by airheads that can't understand why we live in a smaller house, drive older cars etc and all the true ss folks out there who have the land and time to be completely self sufficient. We have a...

    Deficit Issue

I am starting to get pretty worried about this. Even though my family recieves no money from the government directly, it sounds as though the debt ceiling/spending mess would have such a huge ripple effect that everyone would be affected to some extent. It makes me want to run out and stock up...

    What are you DEHYDRATING today?

I did some green peppers and green beans. I think dehydrating is awesome. It takes up so much less room than cans. In the solar area there is a great thread about solar dehydrators. I may have to build one of those once I get the chicken coop roofed.

    Solar Oven

k0xxx- where did you order your oven from? The cardboard box one is OK, but not terribly heavy duty. edited to correct spelling.

    Solar Oven

I have used a homemade one and I did set it on concrete so it would get hotter. I don't think that it would spontaneously combust. However, with the summer we have had, who knows?
