    Basic dehydrating question

Metal peddler, The first and only thing I've done was a dehydrator full of onions. My husband could hardly stay in the house! It was rough on the eyes. I have a 50-lb. bag sitting here waiting to be processed......

    Basic dehydrating question

Thanks for your answers. I purchased a refurbished dehydrator, and perhaps I should have purchased a smaller one. My intention is to have it full when running to save energy, but I have some mushrooms that need to be cooked, eaten or dried, etc., but won't nearly fill the dehydrator. I will...

    Basic dehydrating question

I am new to dehydrating, and was wondering how much combining one can do. In other words, if I put both onions and mushrooms in the dehydrator (on different trays) will the mushrooms take on the onion flavor?

    Gearing Up for Gardens thread...

My potato plants are coming up. I just got some leeks in the ground, probably a bit late. I have small tomato and pepper seedlings started. My garlic is growing well, and strawberry plants are coming up. I have a few cabbage plants in the ground and I built a new small raised bed which is...

Has anyone built their own house?

We have been building our house for the past 8.5 years. It has been a trial, to say the least. There is something to be said for not having a mortgage, though. We did pay for labor on the basement/foundation, roof, plumbing, AC, sheetrock, and some of the floor. One of my greatest regrets...

    Little House books

This makes me want to read them again! When I was in my mid-twenties, my mother, my sister, her husband, their two children and I drove from Alabama to northern Michigan on a vacation. We took turns reading the books aloud. We enjoyed it so much that we stopped at a mall and bought another...

Uses for those nasty little ends of hand soaps............

I save ours throughout the year and put them in a double boiler on the wood stove in the winter (adding water) and make a new large bar.

    Recycling 5 gal. pickle buckets

I have mostly struck out when asking for buckets, but happened to be given a pickle bucket yesterday, so I was especially glad to see this thread. I wish we had a Shipley's nearby, too! I may resort to Lowe's. Our Walmart does something with them and Sam's recycles them.

    Feeding your dog raw food

I'm glad you mentioned about a too-rich diet. My mini poodle began to have such a difficult time -- terrible itching from food allergies, that I began feeding him a raw diet, but it was too rich and sent him into a terrible digestive sickness. He's now on a partial prescription diet...
