Interesting topic and thread.
For me it's the Bible first, hands down. Sadly, we have several judges who are already quoting European law in their decisions, decisions contrary to our Constitution.
I agree with the Back to Basics book. Others that might be helpful for a long-term situation...
In case anyone is interested, here are a couple of links I found helpful:

I am looking for information on how long foods keep. I know honey and wheat have very long shelf lives, but what about pinto beans?
What type of oil is the longest-lasting?
I have just purcahsed a dehydrator. Will dried fruits and vegetables keep indefinately?
Any info would be greatly...
That sounds great. DH and I have been discussing making a semi-recycled dog house out of an old satellite dish. It's one of the solid fiberglass types about ten feet in diameter. I'd like to make one house for our five dogs, insulated, with some of the paint can heaters.
Well, I have found...
I have the three books and get them out to go through occasionally. I used to get her newsletter. I really admire the way she could analyze something and calculate costs, etc.
We did not think things through very well before we built. We have a 1.4 acre lot on family land in the middle of the woods on a lake. Behind our house is almost a cliff down to the water. To the left is a road down to the water. To the right it goes down hill somewhat and we have a large...
You could make a miniature greenhouse to start seeds in, using this for insulation. Wrap clear plastic over a small structure, perhaps PVC, and put this on the inside.
A few years ago we started buying wheat and grinding it because of the health benefits. Wheat is not available in my area, so I have to order it through an expensive health food store. I may compare them to some of the online grain suppliers next. So for those reasons, I really need to take...
We have the Country Living mill and have been pleased with it. It sure does require elbow grease ;-).
Here's some info about it. (I'm not affiliated with Pleasant Hill).

I hope you get some answers because I'd like to know these things. Wheat is generally unavailable in my area, and even when I have found it when traveling, I could only get hard red.
Surely someone here has knowledge about this! :D
Interesting topic; thanks for posting.
I have always put them in my compost, but I think I will start saving them out for more specific uses, especially keeping slugs away. That commercial slug bait is deadly for pets.
I want to order some of these, and this place seems to have the best price. I can't find any reviews on this company, and I hate to just order without knowing their reputation.
Cool whip melts my brain? Uh-oh.:(
We freeze milk regularly and find no difference in it when it's thawed. We live almost ten miles from the nearest store, and it's just the two of us. I buy milk by the gallon at the best price I can find and freeze it in smaller bottles, so we always have...
You're welcome. I think you're going to be a great seamstress.
