What did you do in your garden today?

Thanks a lot, you bunch of despicable enablers. Had the wife out this morning for her weekly get out of the house excursion and we stopped at our local greenhouse which was having a discount sale. Came home with a Ohio climate hardy fig tree, totally not in the plans. Wife grew up with figs...

What’s the Most Unexpected Plumbing Problem You’ve Ever Dealt With?

Had a floor drain connected to the outside footer drain which ran to a culvert 250' out. 4 inches of rain, floor drain backed up. Only got about an 1 inch max in the basement, but it was consistent. Fretting tens of thousands of dollars to dig up and fix....we luckily found a plumber with a...

Not a fan of using a...

DIY Home Repairs You Can Actually Do Yourself (and Save Hundreds)

As I have been updating in this twenty+ year old house, I have been replacing switches and outlets, getting rid of the dingy beige and replacing with clean white fixtures. I am slow, but deliberate. Only replaced one light fixture with a ceiling fan light combo, hard to work over my head solo...

    2025 Resolutions

Swapped out the dingy beige switches and outlet in the hallway today. Will need to touch up the walls. Some cat last night scratched up the new paint in several sections.

    2025 Resolutions

Got the upstairs hallway painted today. Why this task this weekend? Almost 90 again outside and rain inbound tomorrow. If I tear into the packed mess of stuff, I am going to find photo frames and such we wanted to hang. The hallway wall is now finished and ready to hang photos.
