well is fixed, we have cold water again, $150. which is much much less than a new well pump. :) it was a rubber seal that had broken and was leaking, he had a replacement with him. hopefully this is it for a while...
when i talked to him a few minutes ago he seemed fine with it when i described what was going on (the warm water after the hot water heater went out). he said it was likely just a hole in the drop line or something like that and that he'd figure something out for working around the propane...
it is towards the end of the growing season here so i'm mostly picking dry beans and the peppers are still out there producing some from time to time. in the next month i'll hope to get the garlic planted.
otherwise it is get the gardens weeded and put up for winter time.
going to be calling the well guy today.
when the hot water heater blew out the beginning of August it may have been the last straw for the well pump. there has been an issue for years of some water flowing back down into the well (some valve leaking) and now perhaps in combination it finally...
well it was cheaper than swiss or parmesan or the block cheddars around here, but that was a long time ago. i don't really know what the cheese prices have been like recently here because i've been lucky enough to not do too much shopping. we've not been eating many singles this past year...
almost every day here starts with nearly or 100% humidity during the warmer seasons - as the day goes on the humidity can drop (as of 2pm it says 56% humidity and 78F). once w*nt*r kicks in we can have lower humidity to even where static electricity and too dry sinuses become issues.
you do it with your goats just with a lot fewer numbers and more control over the daddies. :) with beans in some cases i can only guess at who the daddies might be (from among all the beans i grow that season).
for me the biggest constraint is how much my body can do in a given day and...
when you leave it up to chance and bees... beans are normally self-fertile and won't cross unless there's bees or other insects moving pollen around (or you get a random mutation which doesn't happen often, but can...).
had i steadier hands and eyes that could see what i'm doing i could have...
pizza today, we take a small thin crust frozen cheese pizza and add extra onions, mushrooms and swiss cheese. it is enough to feed two to three people.
continued picking dry beans and weeding while i'm there (every little bit helps). while this sure isn't a bumper crop by far it is still better than nothing.
they are and the plants are so nice too when they flower and have beans on them. :)
i still have a ways to go with these seed lines but this is a lot of progress for six growing seasons and leaving it up to the bees and chance to do the crosses for me. i didn't see my first crosses until the...
making progress on my Purple Dove project. you can see many beans in these pictures that look like variations of Purple Dove but do not have the yellow ring around the eye. what i need to continue to do is to keep growing these out and noting the habit, flower color, pods and seed coats and...
