What did you do in your garden today?

I tucked in a few turnip seeds in a few bare spots. Then I looked at one of the empty beds and tried to decide if I could get 25 broccoli plants in there. Hmmmm, AI said 4 - 11! I dunno about that - I think I can do better, lol. I was thinking more like 15 and maybe 18 if they're really...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Agree! I have a couple of big jobs that are waiting for me but I can usually find something smaller and less challenging to do instead, lol. I need to rehang some gates - including planting new gate posts. I'm having a real hard time convincing myself to do those! Sometimes I have to sit...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

On my second cup of coffee. Morning feeding/chores was taken care of between the 1st and 2nd cup. Weather is quite comfortable at 73 degrees. We're headed for a high in the mid 80's. I'm not complaining but it IS November...cold will happen when it happens. I got 4 eggs yesterday out of the...

    What's for dinner?

Got a free turkey the other day so it's about to go in the oven. After dinner tonight, I'll most likely debone and freeze it as I don't have room in my freezer for a whole turkey. Wouldn't ya know it - that freebie deal is still going on this week so I guess I'll buy another ham and get...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Collards are planted - yay! Also a bit of oak leaf lettuce, tom thumb lettuce and some bok choy...or was it pak choy? I disremember. I have broccoli and cabbage seeds tucked into those cute little expandable peat pellets. They're sitting on top of the brooder in hopes that the bottom heat...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Turnips are poking through the ground! YaY! Not sure yet if I'll have any empty spaces to fill. I'll need to give it a couple more days before I know. Carrots are still covered and being kept moist. That's going to go on for some time. I neeeeed carrots! Going to try to get collards...

    What's for dinner?

Forgot I had a head of cabbage in the fridge - so the side will be baked cabbage "steaks." They will be topped with baked potato toppings - cheese, chopped bacon, chives and sour cream. Oh man - who needs pork chops!

    What's for dinner?

Pork chops. Don't ask me what sides we're having - who knows? Whatever is the easiest thing to grab most likely. ;)

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Finally got carrots planted today. Soaked the bed really well, put seeds in dirt, soaked it again and covered it all with cardboard then soaked the cardboard, lol. Dark and moist seems to be the trick. Hope so! I worked up another bed with my new digging fork. I'll put collards there. Hope...

It definitely IS a lot of work. Loppers are definitely your friend! We've used them while dismantling pigs too.
