    Resisting Temptation....

Yep, he turned 2 years old on Friday! Oct. 28th. How fast these two years have gone by! He sure grew a lot! He is about 6lbs lighter than he was at a year old. But, he is taller. He is just starting to eat more, maybe that means we will soon be out of the 90's here during the day!

    Resisting Temptation....

Yes he did, and he was getting bits of it as I was working too. I thought it was funny that he didn't even try to take it off the counter! I had even pointed to it, as if to give him permission to take it, but... he wouldn't. I guess he knows taking things off the counter is "forbidden." Which...

    Resisting Temptation....

Whenever we had leftover meat scraps, I freeze them in small amounts on a cookie sheet. And then store them in a ziplock bag in the freezer. Then I can add one to Cherokee's dinner each night. I got the series of photos above while doing this. Cherokee was so funny... He wouldn't touch any...

    Update on Chicken TV Patio

Well, I will get my chickens on July 26th, when I return from visiting my daughter in Colorado. In the mean time I am getting things ready. The Sun Flowers and Morning Glories are growing nicely. The vines are starting to flower now! I just love these!!

    Look what I found!

I don't think it will fall over. The base is cast iron and very heavy. And it is under an umbrella which should cut down on any wind blowing it over. We will see when the summer storms come.

    Look what I found!

I was walking the dog and found this "stand" that someone was throwing away. It was black wrought iron. I got out my paints and make it like brand new. Before.. (well, not really I forgot to do a before photo, this is after I put primer on it) Here is the after photo, i had wanted to use it...

    Chicken TV Patio finally finished!

It has taken a year since I found the old four poster bed that is now a Garden Bench. I found an old chair that I turned into a table, by using the section that was cut out of the foot board of the bed to make the sides of the bench. Here is the new Chicken TV Patio area as of yesterday...

    Garden Bench

He thought his job was to run around and kick up dust on my wet paint!

    Garden Bench

Don't be sad... we can have chickens again! They changed the distance from 50ft to 20ft from the nearest neighbor's dwelling. So I was able to put my coop back where it was! I still need to put the "top" on it, and cover it with chicken wire and hardware cloth. The run area is bigger this time.

    Glenn Cottage Eggery Rebirth!

The city of Tucson has finally decided to become more Urban Agriculture friendly! They changed the zoning for chickens and small animals here in the city limits!! I had a beautiful chicken coop I built in 2008. In 2014 the city made me take it down or face a $1000.00 a day fine!! Links to my...

    Garden Bench

Last year one of my neighbors was throwing out an old poster bed. I had to "walk" the bed frame to my house, (about two blocks away)since it wouldn't fit in the trunk or my car, or in our small pickup which has a camper shell. Here it is after I brought it home last year, not the best photo...

    Dog Cookies

The other day I made over 250 dog cookies! And it cost me about $6.00!! Of course, the ingredients were on sale, so I might not have them cost so little next time. They are made from Beef Kidney, Chicken liver, Spinach, and Ground Brown Rice.

I really HATE Tucson right now!!

The only remedy for Spartacus would be to amputate his leg. Being he is 10 years old, which for his breed is "elderly", we have opted to make him as comfortable as possible for as long as he is with us. The vet said if it were his dog, he wouldn't do the surgery. Usually by the time this cancer...

I really HATE Tucson right now!!

Two weeks ago, I had a City Official come to my house and say they had a "complaint" about my coop, (not any of my neighbors, who LOVE the chickens and the eggs they get). Our city doesn't enforce "codes" about chickens unless they get a complaint. Well, I not only had to find new homes for my...

    My waterfall!

For the longest time I have wanted to put some kind of water feature in the backyard. One of my friends is moving to OK. And gave me a waterfall she didn't think would make the move safely. I worked all morning getting it set up and going!!

    Planting by the moon phases

I believe the word "lunatic" is accociated with "moon sick" and has come from more craziness happening at the full of the moon. My mom was an ER nurse, and they had more weird things happen at full moons.

    Thinning eggshells

I have nice strong shells on my eggs, I use a premium layer feed with cracked grains, pellets and oyster shell all mixed together. My hens are going on three years old now. This Spring they were laying HUGE eggd! They didn't fit in any size commercial egg carton.
