    Weeds: An untapped resource.

I've been hearing about lamb's quarters and curious to try it out. Dandelionsare hard to find around here lately. Everyone poisons the heck out of them. I would really liked to try and make wine from the flowers which I've heard is really good.

    Cooking a Goose

You could and I would sugguest placing the duck (if whole) ona vertical roaster which helps drain the fat off. You can "beer can chicken" them as well to help keep the meat moist. Pretty much it depends too if it's a wild duck, home grown or store bought. The store bought ducks will be really...

    Weeds: An untapped resource.

I've heard of weed tea and have been curious to try it out. I probably should compost weeds but if I do it would be the johnson grass then and this purple flower we get growing all over. I have no idea what it is just it grows fast and the animals refuse to eat it. I also have huge strange...

    Who grows fruit?

I have peaches, pears, apples and apricots. Also a massive fig tree that produces small canning figs and a young turkey fig tree. I have a pomengrante that never seems to bear fruit. I had raspberries from time to time...I usually wind up killing those... Watermelons (I really should cut soon)...

    Cooking a Goose

A tip in cooking duck is prick the skin all over and cut some slits in the skin near the thighs to help drain some fat in cooking. Especially on a bbq pit the prickled skin helps release the fat.

    Weeds: An untapped resource.

Ooooh my birds would love that thistle as well! I also have a lot of wild sunflowers they are enjoying. I've been letting the weeds grow a few inches and then chop them when they are still tender and the animals love them. I would love to keep bees but it is just not safe for me as I don't have...

    Wine Grape Harvest '08

My grapes are champenal. They are a bit tart the first few years but have gotten sweet this year. Yup, this is the recipe my Dad taught me. I'm eager to see the results of my solo job. I have no idea on the content of the final product but I do know it's a bit higher than average wine...

    Weeds: An untapped resource.

Today I decided this year I would not take my mower or weed eater to the yard. I busted out the machete and started cutting weeds for my animals. This has helped stretch out the food budget. And it's funny that I spent a good deal of the day chopping weeds down and I go to pick up a new issue of...

    Wine vinegar anyone?

It's actually simple Ticks. You just mix a cup of vinegar and a cup of apple cider then let it sit where it will be at least 80 degrees in tempature and after a few days the film forms. That is mother of vinegar and it can then be added to old wine to make wine vinegar. I also saw it can be...

    Wine Grape Harvest '08

LOL! Okay I think I would try to make some but would make sure to ferment maybe for the same amount of time as my grape wine. Sounds like he really fermented them and they were old already so I can imagine just how high the proof was lol!

    Quick salsa

I love homemade salsas over any store bought. The manufactured ones never have enough burn to them for me! I usually get some great salsa from my Mom but when I bbq and everyone comes they want me to make this strawbery salsa I make. It fun to make your own than just buy it so I just like it...

Bird Farming and other market animals

I'm not sure about CEF but at .69 I would say they are day olds. I usually buy day olds and work my way up from there. $6 for a 16 week pullet is very a very good deal! I've been selling my 4-5 week old pullets for $4.50 to $5. I haven't heard that about white eggs and I think because most...

LOL! Was it just strong? Or was it just something with the taste? I wouldn't mind trying to make some as I have a peach tree.

    Wine Grape Harvest '08

Pretty much we pick them and then get jars and fill them halfway with water. Then you put the grapes so there is a 50/50 mix. Let them sit about 11-12 days. Then you crush the grapes and strain them and the water they have been sitting into a jug or bottles. You can put the sugar in at this...

    Wine Grape Harvest '08

Well last year my Dad showed me how to make wine and went through the steps. It came out very good with a merlot taste and was strong. Really warmed the belly! This year the vine is producing like crazy! And this year my Dad is letting me fly solo so he can see if I've learned the process and if...
