    Your Charities and Good Deeds

I appreciate what you're saying but there's also learning from others about the possibilities. Particularly now, we need to have as much information at our disposal as possible. I am happy to read about the efforts of others. Gets me thinking. :)

    Manual washing machine.

I love the machine. Not so much the stand. It also leaks when I drain it. I'll put it in the bathtub the next time I drain it. This thing is fantastic though. Truth in advertising - it took out dirt in a way I never could have for hand washing. It's not for large or even normal loads by...

    Manual washing machine.

 Nope! Not single! I'm going to give it a shot though. It's only supposed to take a few minutes per load . . .

    Manual washing machine.

I just ordered this. Apparently it really works, according to the reviews I read. Cool, huh? http://www.laundry-alternative.com/washing.htm It's not my grandmother's manual washer!

    Your Charities and Good Deeds

We sponsor two kids in India and Senegal through Christian Childrens Fund. We also donate to Special Olympics and a few other charities. Recently, the egg take got to the point that we now donate them to the community center in the next town. I also bake up a storm for the Alzheimer...

    Worm farming?

I accidentally created a worm farm of sorts and now I want to preserve it. Basically I had a trash bag of stuff that I had raked out of our dog yard sitting near the fence for most of the summer. We've been doing a bunch of construction this summer and I just forgot about it. Now we're doing...

Ready for SS's 1st Great Debate?

The earth will be just fine. Short of the sun going supernova, the earth will carry on without a hitch. The issues are those having to do with the surface and atmosphere such that they can continue to produce the conditions adequate to support the human species. The scientists don't know...

Don't know where to put this.

However, if any of the members of your household are allergic to dust mites, put your clothing and bedding into the dryer on high for ten minutes.

Ready for SS's 1st Great Debate?

Take into account some practical considerations that are immediate concerns. Landfills have been a problem for some time. Why throw out your plastic when you can recycle it? Our local recycling program also has a system for dropping off all kinds of metal and glass. They also take broken...

    Composting questions.

I was ridiculously unsuccessful with composting when I lived in the desert. I'm not sure what I did or didn't do but I do know that nothing ever broke down. I suspect that there wasn't enough moisture to break the contents down. Now we're in MA. I have a barrel composter on rollers so that I...

    Old canola oil reuse?

DH found some really old canola oil in the back of the cupboard and seems to remember that old cooking oil can be turned into some kind of soap or wood treatment. Does anyone have any idea of how this oil could be used? It smells bad so I don't want to cook with it.

Public Service Announcement - Financial Literacy Survey

I think that Suze Orman is fantastic. She's been there, educated herself and become an expert. I don't watch every episode by any means but there's only been one issue on a show that I disagreed with her about.

Wildcrafting. Yeah. That. See, I've learned something new already! MIL used to help feed her family off of this property by just picking stuff up off the ground so I know we have some good stuff. Just don't know what it is. Definitely do bee related stuff. My next door neighbor has a hive...
