I'm just trying to help out. :P And, you gave me some jerky when you were here. You're still invited next weekend, although it looks like snow is in the forecast. Love ya!

So what is the priority? Most important at top and least important at the bottom? Sometimes I think it works well to prioritize by a blend of easiest to hardest and fastest to slowest. Like the house... that is important, but I think it is too depressing to put that one at the top. And the...

I think Lulu was traumatized by her box ride home to our house from Petsmart, and that was only 30 minutes. I hope the kitten does ok too.

You know, you can quote more than one person in a post. I'm getting email spammed by my subscription for your journal going off, because I keep immediately coming over and reading it. :-P I enjoyed Star Trek, and appreciated the nod to Captain/Admiral Pike. I felt that a lot of the...

I had a pull up and wait experience last night at McDonald's too. Probably close to the same time as yours: 9:35. Waited 5 minutes for my crispy chicken to go on my sandwich. How did you like Star Trek? I'm also wondering how you liked Wolverine, but I'm boycotting it after their treatment of...

Any time you publish something, it should go through an editing process. It drives me nuts when my office sends out a document that doesn't go through an admin. (Of course I probably feel that way because I'm one of the admin). Besides, having that extra set of eyes is always a great help.

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

Yeah, that's what I said too. Which is why I thought those stupid funny looking orange pieces were mangoes. We bought mangoes at the grocery store too Saturday. But you know how he is....

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

So hubby spent the weekend playing with the food dehydrator. Since it isn't exactly growing season yet here in Wisconsin, we started it with a trip to the grocery store. I found humorous irony in dehydrating canned pineapples, but when the fresh ones are $6 each and probably not flavorful, and...

advice needed on building grow-light shelves

Here's the set up I have. My limiting factor has been temperature, since the set up is in our unheated basement, hanging out around 50 degrees. I have 2 4' long fluorescent bulbs in each light, adjustable chains. They hang a couple inches from the top of the plants. Everything is staying a...

Starting seeds is going to be the death of me.

I started all my plants (too) early and have been running into some mold problems. A few things I've noticed: More humidity = More mold.: Using the Jiffy Peat Moss pellets, I recommend opening the plastic cover a little bit as soon as you start seeing sprouts, and then taking the cover off...

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

Our food dehydrator arrived today. Its a Excalibur 3900R. It reminds me of my parents dehydrator -- big and square with the square trays that come apart. I'll be planning on having a bunch of dried peppers, tomatoes, and herbs at the end of the summer.

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

Average last frost looks to be around 5/21. I found some planting lists for Zone 4 and will probably go off that for putting things in the ground. I've been thinking about getting the ground covers, but I'll just keep an eye on the tomatoes and see what happens. Plus, if the basement warms up...

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

I was excited. Plus we thought we'd put up the greenhouse this year, so that would have let me put my plants out sooner. But, there's more important things to do around the house, like fix the water seepage in the basement, and the lack of insulation in the basement. I have started some of my...

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

My newspaper pots are getting a bit moldy. I aired the indoor greenhouse out my first day back. Tomatoes are getting bigger, and starting to get a bit leggy. I want to repot them, so the stems can be buried further and root better, but they are already in my 3 inch newspaper pots, and I...

Clstratton- a long ways to go in self-sufficiency!

I've been thinking about that greenhouse a lot lately. I remember huge heads of something... I don't remember if it was lettuce or cabbage. Was the greenhouse heated? How were we able to grow stuff in that much cold, with that little sunlight, even in a greenhouse? Maybe Papa Bear can help...

    Kaycei's Journal - Don't eat dehydrated garlic!

I left the cold of Wisconsin almost 2 weeks ago, with the temperature barely above zero, for the fifty-plus degree weather of southern Illinois for a week to visit my parents. They have daffodils down there. By the time I got home Sunday, the snow was gone and the weather was above freezing...

    Dacjohns--Changes

I feel that the largest contributor to the financial problem is all the people who bought houses on ARMs, and couldn't afford them. Or maybe all the lenders/loan agents that provided those people with the loans. The next largest contributor is the fact that our entire economy is based off...
