    If you save oatmeal it has to be in an airtight bucket, even the packets. I have found that the oatmeal packets and the granola atract the most bugs. Those are the only things that have every been infested in our food storage.

    If you don't have a machine you can just throw an oxygen absorber into each jar before closing. It will vacuum seal the jar for you. You have to work fast though, so you should have all your jars ready before you open the OA's, otherwise they won't work.

    You should always have peroxide. It truly has no medicinal purposes, but it will stop bleeding almost instantly. You should also keep small tampons for bloody noses.

    I know of people who survived off their 72 hour kits and food storage after huricane Katrina. Our power was out for over a week one time and we survived on our emergency food that didn't need to be cooked because we had no way to cook the food in the house.
