Has anyone ever tried to make their own yeast before? I have an old cook book with a yeast recipe and I was wondering if anyone has ever done it before.

No, you make a large jar of liquid yeast and when you get low you and more ingredients and wait for the fungus to multiply. It has to be stored in the fridge.

In all honesty, it shouldn't be all that hard. Would probably be similar to a lot of the live foods that are cultured for fish babies. Would definately be neat to check it out, though I have to admit, we don't use a lot of yeast around here, and I still have a 1lb vacuum sealed lot of it.

As I was perusing another forum that I visit, I came across this recipe and instruction pictorial for making a different kind of sourdough starter and bread. I think I will be trying this.

I hope it's all right for me to post this link, but here it is:
