This was inspired by an interesting piece of spam that showed up on the forum this morning. It was hawking prepackaged food. But I thought we could come up with a much better list of things to buy at a much better price with way more nutrition.

So assuming you could squeeze $10 per paycheck out for prepping, what could you get for that $10 for long term storage and possible barter?

Here is what I bought on a recent shopping trip...

$2.72 4 1lb bags of pinto beans @ 68 each
$2.76 4 small cans of organic tomato paste 69 each
$2.00 2 jars of chili powder $1 each
$2.00 2 jars of dehydrated onions $1 each
______
$9.48

$3 2# organic steel cut oats
$3 2 cans of natural coconut cream (Faraon is my favorite...no added sugars)
$4 2 lb of strawberries (for drying)
_____
$10

That's quite a few breakfasts right there. The dry strawberries are kind of a luxury, but stocked food should be nummy too :D

$2.98 Canned clams
$1.59 Coconut cream
$3.00 small can of shrimp
$2.00 dried carrots or other dried veggies
______
$9.57

This may sound spendy, but there is a load of nutrition in this mix. You can make darn good chowder out of these ingredients in about 2 minutes :D If you add fresh veggies and fresh caught fish to it the price per serving goes down even further. I also add some old bay seasoning when I make it.

This would make a good contest; how many different items can you get for $10? Or how many different meals can you make for $10? :D

I would spend the ten dollars on a trash magazine, a few candy bars and some tampax.

Cuz if the world is ending. Everybody is gonna die if I have to suffer any more than I already do.
