$20,000 on a pet?

sorry, Journey.. we had a hard loss that day also of our good old girl.

that is a beautiful picture - i'm sure she knew how much you loved her.

That is for certain! If it weren't for loss, we would never fully appreciate what we do have and the time we have with those we love (including our furry friends.) I have so many good memories...

Sorry for your loss too, OFG. Dogs really do become part of the family, don't they. :hugs
 
I love my animals, but $20,000....yikes!

Heck, if hubby needed $20,000 worth of medical care I would have to have him put down at this point :P

i told my hubby he couldnt have a heart attack b/c we couldnt afford it. HA!

20k, I could live 4 years on that, easy!

On the other hand, most of my money goes to the animals now anyway. If I had the money, I know I would spend it on my pet or any of my critters :rolleyes: I used to take a chicken in on a regular basis to get her beak trimmed, the vet only charged me $10. but still :lol: She was a really special chicken. And I was going to have surgery done on her beak to fix it, but she had to weigh 2 lbs. I accidentally killed her before she got to that weight. I still really miss my little Butika.

I'm with you WZ, except I'd figure out a way to come up with the money for the dog, but SO....I don't know...:lol:
 
Husbands should know better than my pet :lau

they should take care of themselves, those stupid little pet eyes are at your mercy. and they usually don't talk back! :gig
 
My boss got a Golden pup this past year and paid about $1200 for the dog, then found out he had problems with his radius and ulna growing too fast and chipping off at the elbow. She paid $4000 per leg to have this repaired and it may not last, as he is still growing.

He limps all the time and can never run and play like regular dogs. She also has to watch him on slick floors. He is only a year old!
 
Sorry for your loss, Journey. It sounds like it was all so sudden. :(

The pic is lovely too ... I love the expression. Wish I could say something helpful. It's hard especially when they see you through rough times. Sounds like she was very healthy right to the end. Which made it easier for her but doesn't allow tou to prepare I know.

Again, sorry to hear of it.

And sorry to hear of your loss too OFG. Sounds like that was just a bad day all round.
 
I bet Bee that dog is in pain everyday

goes to show that "loving" that pet could give it a crappy life for a very long time.....ya gotta know when to just sit back and let nature take its course.

people can "over love" to the detriment of the critter so easily these days
 
It really can get expensive to take care of your animals. I guess medical care is expensive for all family members be they human, furred or feathered. One of my grooming clients really scrapes by for income, but when it comes to medical care for her elderly mom and her two dogs ( whom she considers her kids), there is no scrimping there.

I myself paid several thousand dollars to buy a few extra years with one of my dogs when we really didn't have the money. She had a cancerous growth on her leg; the vet amputated her leg and she did great as a tripod for a couple years, then we had to have a lump taken off of her tail. I decided then not to put her through more surgeries, more because of her age (she was 12 at the time of her second surgery), than for the cost. I figured I'd be able to tell if she was suffering from the cancer... had some times toward the end when I wasn't sure if it was time to say goodbye but she always seemed to rally. She died one day while I was at work and DH was at home. Sure hope I did the right thing by her, she was a good and gentle dog (sigh).

That said, there's no way I could come up with 20K for any of my pets. :hu
