Has anyone put together a garden plan yet?

I've narrowed down the list of things I want to plant, and the jobs that need to be done and I'm just now drafting up a garden plan to show where everything will end up going. I'll scan mine into the computer later and post it all coloured in and everything, but for now this is what we're planting..

Vegetables

Peas
Beans (not sure on varieties yet)
Brussels
Lettuce (romaine and.. not sure what else)
Spinach
Carrots
Radishes
Cucumber
Tomato
Sweet Peppers

We're not doing as much in the vegetable garden, just different varieties of those veggies

Fruits

Strawberries
Blackberries
Raspberries

Blacks and Rasps will be going both in the main garden and out in the front yard as a bit of "pop" behind our picket fence

Trees

Apple Trees (3 more)
Pear Tree (1 more)
Crabapple Trees (2)
Maple Trees (probably 2 along the front of the property, these are free from our town)
Ginormous Pines for along the front of the property

And we're adding to the potager garden herbs again, but also more Lupins, Sweetpea, Sunflowers, Coneflower, and Black Eyed Susan..

lots of tomatoes
bell peppers
jalapeno
cucumbers
summer squashes- zuke, crookneck, pattypan
winter squashes -spaghetti and maybe pumpkin

cilantro
basil

If we don't get a community garden plot, I'll have to cut out the squashes.

I'm hoping for a better crop of apricots this year -not hard to beat last year's harvest of one apricot, and lots of peaches. Other fruits won't bear this year, hopefully in 2011!

Oh my gosh, the list is endless.....everything from A to Z.

Already have as perinnials......
1. 3 apple tress-Red Delicious, Gravenstein, Yellow Transparent
2. 1 3x combo pear tree-bartlett, red seckel, anjou(I think), but also have a quince growing up from the rootstock uninvited.
3. 1 Bing cherry
4. 1 5x cherry-I don't remember all the varieties, I only wanted the pie cherry :D
5. 1 Stanley prune plum
6. 1 Asian pear-20th century-will have to come out this year
7. Herbs-oregano, sage, rosemary
8. Strawberries
9. Raspberries
10. Blueberries
11. Grapes

Any and all blackberries are uninvited and keep trying to take over my yard.... :barnie

What I want....

fruit trees-peach, and a pie cherry (not a multiple graft)

herbs-comfrey, camomile, thyme, lavender, chives, mint. (possibly more, I can't think of right now)

vegetables----have seeds & grow (or try to) every year.

green beans
dry beans-navy, pinto, red
beets
broccoli
cabbage
carrots
cauliflower
celery
corn
cukes-pickle & slice
garlic
lettuce-head, leaf and romaine
melon-have not had success but keep trying (hale's)
onions-usually storage yellow type, but will try reds & sweet also
peas-shelling & sugar snap
peppers-sweet bell type, several hot varieties, pickling types
potatoes-russet types and red skinned
radishes
spinach
squash-summer & winter varieties-including pumpkins
sunflowers
tomatoes-several varieties
watermelon

others I want to try...

artichokes
asparagus
grains-wheat, oats, alfalfa (ya I know it's not a grain, but...)
other heirloom varieties of melons, tomatoes, watermelon-love the selections in Baker Creek Catalog

As for jobs to be done-

1. need to build a compost bin-instead of dumping in the garden
2. till the dirt-but first I need to get gas/oil
3. clean out the garden shed and make some repairs to the floor to rat proof it
4. weed & cover the raspberry bed with fabric & mulch
5. need to move the blueberries & grapes
6. cut the strawberry runners for individual plants
7. get out my mini green houses and get some things started.
8. figure out a better system to keep chickens out of the garden.

That's enough, I'm tired just thinking about it all......and it's late

Not really a plan so far. Lots of seeds on hand and I have gone through and made a list of what I have. Spent this past Sunday getting cabbage and tomato seeds started inside. Saturday was spent building a grow stand. Will start my pepper seeds next weekend. Other than that, its just kind of up in the air. Planning to build another raised bed this year, maybe two if possible. My goal is at least one a year. Oh and DH bought the seed potatos last weekend. Right now the ground is so wet you sink up to your ankles just walking across the yard.

old fashioned,
I thought I was the only one with an endless mountain of chores like that....;)

We are just roughing in the seed selection yet.

3 varieties of tomato
2 varieties of summer squash
cucumbers
eggplant
pole beans
onions
garlic
carrots
kale
spinach
4 + types of loose leaf lettuce
basil
swiss chard
pumpkin
winter squash
test bed of quinoa

At a minimum build removable panels for the 16x8 cold frame. Improve the squash bed. Would like to make another 16x8 raised bed and cold frame. Also clear some forest and create a field for growing grains.. Also would like to get the water holding tank higher in the air so I can water with gravity instead of buckets.

Well I am not sure. I was planning to put in 4 raised beds, but DH is thinking that we may not be staying in this rental :idunno

So I will probably try to grow in pots....which I HATE!

I plan to start some seeds really soon....simple basics. Tomatoes, peppers & herbs.

Later I woudl like to add more but well see.

Well, since we will have 3 garden plots this year....I have decided to try a few extras.

#1 gets way more sun...so will have
Ky Wonder green beans...pole type( they produced up intill frost last year, I love em!)
Tomatos...for sliceing,canning, and a few(maybe 10) romas for sauces.
Cucumbers, sliceing and pickling
Beets
Corn

#2 will have..
Potatos
Onions
brussel sprouts( never tried them before, going to this year)
Sunflowers

#3 will be ( the old hog pen)
Peas
Carrots
Indian corn
Once the peas are finished..I will try some head lettuce..maybe
and some cabbage

I want to plant some melons...not sure if I have the space...yet. ;)
ETA: We have grapes, 3 cherries, apples, and will be putting in peaches. Have elderberries, blackberries(wild) but want to put in the thornless ones. Oh, and we have persimmons and Mulberries.

Are you kidding? My garden for this year was planned by the time harvest was over. I always evaluate what's growing and how much produce we got and it goes OFF the list or ON the list depending on the yield and overall performance including taste.
Once again we will have the green house full of tomatoes and peppers-about 100 tomato plants total and about 20 peppers. Various herbs and some broccoli, and celery round out the selection in the greenhouse.
In the garden proper we'll have some potatoes, carrots, melons, zukes, cukes, green beans, peas and MELONS. I WILL have melons, damnit I will. I also throw some herbs out there in the raised beds as well as the strawberries, asparagus, onions and garlic.
Oh, I forgot, several rows of leaf lettuce, spinach and kale.

Farmerlor, that is a great way to do it....one I have always intended to implement. I love the whole garden journal idea but again....have never really done it although I hear it is invaluable!
