2011 is just around the corner..........

Our goal is to finish projects that need to be finished. We need a break from "self sufficient". We have burned ourselves out this year.

We can't bring FRESH fruits into CA. There are checkpoints in CA where they can confiscate fresh produce and live animals. So if I process the fruit (can, freeze, dry, whatever) first, then I can bring them home without worry. My parents live in the middle of orchard country in UT and it kills me not to bring home fruit when I visit. $5 for a full bushel of apples? Makes me green with envy.

For live chickens, I just cross my fingers that we don't get stopped.

Our little vacation house on their property will have a work kitchen for canning, etc.

Could you by some chance slip thru on a back road?

There are no back roads between Vegas and LA. Nice try though.

Well I am from the sticks....thats how we do things.

I have no goals for 2011 other than just getting through day by day as best I can. Actually considering doing away with all my chickens except 5 or 6. Already down to 3 rabbits, 2 of which are freezer bound. The 3rd will probably go to a neighbor.

My garden will be smaller. I have a pantry full, 2 freezers full and unless something really big happens, I plan to take it as easy as possible. Spend more time with my husband, and much more time with my grandchildren.

I need a break.

well I have made many long term plans that have worked out perfect.

but I have many that didn't work


"think and do" has gotten me into more trouble then I care to say

I am going to try "The Compact" - not buying anything new for one month - January. Should be an interesting experience!

*Build nest boxes for the rabbits
*Expand the garden to approx. 20x25
*Raise WAY more rabbits just for meat, not trying to sell them
*Hunting for deer in fall/winter
*Fishing (and actually keeping those panfish) in summer
*Work on processing wool, spinning (for product to sell)
*Render hard animal fat to tallow, make soap
*Work on creating an income for myself
*Water bath canning

I want a yard tractor for rabbits. My fiance is against it. Might just have to make it myself on day...
