30 Day Homesteading Challenge - October 2021

Maybe red worms as an animal. Use them for composting.

earth worms are easy too. i use a mix of many species in my worm buckets. you don't even need an expensive set up if you watch what you are doing for moisture control.

hmm, maybe I should research them. I'm mildly interested but have been concerned about keeping them alive over winter. I don't think DH would appreciate an indoor worm colony. I've also mildly considered raising mealworms, but again, overwintering and not having them indoors have been my barriers to moving forward.

completely understandable. some people freak out when i tell them that i have 100,000 worms in my room here with me. it used to be closer to 200,000 but i've downsized the past few years.

i should say the population count does vary with the time of the year though. :)

Day 9 - Learn [another] Kitchen Skill

Does finding my counter underneath the stack of dishes count? 😬 I have basic to intermediate cooking skills, I'm not really sure what I should/could learn or practice. Any inspiration?
How about something fun like a candy or mirror glaze or taffy?

You could try a batch of those crackers if you have some more sprouted wheat ready. Hmmm... if not... I'm fresh outta ideas. No wait, do you make homemade mayonnaise? I fail quite regularly at that one, lol!

I make mayo! I got an awesome price on avocado oil mayo from Misfit Market so I haven't made mayo for months. I'm down to one container left of "bought" mayo. Soon! Do you use a stick blender for your mayo?

I should start some wheat sprouting for crackers. I ordered thickness bands to put on my rolling pin, they should be here in a few days. Or I might have to put on my big girl panties and roll it out the old-fashioned way. Thank you! It's so hectic here I'd already forgotten about making sprouted wheat crackers!
