Yup. That is what the real numbers say. By real numbers I mean the calculations that were used in the 80's...not the phony baloney numbers they use now.

So inflation is actually about 9% and the real unemployment numbers? 22%

DH had no work for 3 whole months this fall/winter. We survived on $405/wk unemployment benefits and DH did any bits of work he could get. Like tree removal and fall cleanups. Work is still shaky.......we're ready for an improvement in this economy and NOW!!!

hmmm....time to rob a bank. they got enough where even if the dollars are worth .50--if I grab enough I can be rich.

Makes you wonder what the real stats are. Of course we all knew inflation was around 9%. At least if you're buying anything that matters. I would like to know actual unemployment numbers. I know 1st time unemployment claims are down, which is good news. Of course that doesn't account for all the people that ran out of unemployment.

Good thing everyone on here is fully prepared for hard times.

I'm not sure it is possible to get real statistics from the government any more because they are so invested in making things seem rosier than they are. "see, you may still be jobless, but at least you don't have any inflation to worry about"

A lot of programs and payments are tied to inflation....like social security. So if you fudge the numbers, you don't have to give cost of living increases.

Exactly. Spot on. Not only do they hide the real numbers but they never mention the "inflation" tax from loss of purchasing power as a result of the the diminished value of the dollar.
I fear it will not improve either.

Actually the figures are accurate for what they are measuring. The fact that TV's are counted just as they have always been is ridiculous though. They look at the whole picture. Not just the parts that have always mattered. So for our purposes it suck's. Work's great on their end though.

It's being measured the same as it always has been. Just like unemployment. Nothing new there.
