Today I was shocked to receive a call from the vet I saw on Saturday for one of my goats. I saw the "horse" vet - the same one who would not come out to see one of my goats once. He actually called to check on the goat. He especially thinks of goats as a waste of time. Heck he one time told me I wasting my time treating one of my horses and I should just get another. Rough bedside manner.
The only thing I could think was that things must be slow at the clinic due to the ecomony if a lowly goatie gets attention.

We had a Vet like that once...... "had" being the operative word. The Vet we see now is a wonderful young man fresh out of veterinary school that LOVES to do large animal work, but he is super with our dogs as well.

I wanted to be a vet until I realized the real work they do and that they are unable to save all animals as in "Thomasina".

It doesn't sound like your vet loves his work. I had one that wouldn't pet my dog or say hi to her after she was 2 years. Those should have been warning signs and I lost her to something he admitted he missed. I found a new vet after that.

Too bad your vet is difficult, especially if he's the only game in town.

ETR - Sorry you had a sick goat but the story is funny.

You know things are tough when Vets start calling you. Heck half the time you can't get them to call back when you need them.

I will say my vet is awsome. But I ran across quite a few that sound like the vet you described prior to finding this one.

he might be changing his system with call backs etc.

My vet always calls to check on animals if it is a type of situation where they need recovery.

You know, if you call him out to do something routine he won't call......but if you had him out for a problem, like hoof, leg, etc. on a horse he would always call back and check.

He started off as a pain in the butt. He was meaner when younger....very "medicine" talk only.....as he got older thru the years he got nicer to "chatting" about the animals.

So he was very business when younger (probably all those bills he had---lol) and then got softer as he practiced.

He is on call 24/7 literally. He vetted Peepers when she had the twisted gut, we chatted at midnight about her and he was here at 5:30 in the morning to check her. Nope, I ain't giving him up ever.....good vet!!!!

I've been lucky - my Mom works at the vets office we use. I get her discount on stuff and can always get ahold of one of the drs just by calling Mom cause she has all of their numbers
