Thanks for the link. I would love a modern version of their kitchen complex, especially a meat processing area. I hate to cut up and wrap venison in my kitchen. It would be great to have a nice large cooled room with plenty of room for hanging and a large stainless steel table and sink. And an area dedicated to baking... oh I could go on an on!

That would be very nice !!!! I was wondering what they did to the skin under the feathers before they put it on the peacocke pie... I don't think it would of been very safe with the underside on the pie if it wasn't lined with something..

Interesting how the whole dinner was set up to show how high the status was of the host.

The most hilarious part of the whole status game is it is seen as some kind of human fault or failing. A trapping of society or civilization. Some corruption of the natural order caused by wealth. In reality, it is the most un-evolved primitive of activities. Look outside at your ducks and chickens. It's what they do all day every day.

I had know idea that poultry wasn't eaten very often... I understand that they were prized for eggs.. Also did the lower class didn't get to eat much meat... I guess they were vegetarians most of the time.. I also never knew what Humble pie was ( spelling??) Now I know.
I also wonder what peacock tastes like...
My son's hunt the wild boar here in Texas but they only take certain parts of the kill.. I haven't tried it... I bet that spit area where they had to cook all that meat was pretty big...
also wonder what they did with all the left overs after 40 people ate...
