I have sinus infections ALL the time. These infections would send me to bed with sever pain, my eye would swell so large that it looked as it would come out of the socket, it was flame red and it weeped constantly. Going outside into the sun was not an options---just going from the house to car was a big deal--EVEN with dark glasses on. I have even worn a patch on my eye when I needed/ had to be out and about. I used to have a standing appointment with an ENT Dr.--took way too many antibiotics, used all most every nose spray, Nedi-pot, saline spray, salt spray.

Finally after two doctors, one specialist and 1000's$.. I was told that the only thing that was left was surgery. My nasal, sinus passages/cavities are not correct--leaving anything in the room, area to be sniffed directly deep into my head!

I declined surgery and stopped going to the doctor. For two yrs, I haven't taken antibiotics. I use saline or salt spray in my nose.On occasion, I take seasonal allergy meds (over the counter) and try very hard to keep the air passages from closing up by applying ice to my nose, eyes and face when they start acting up..As SOON as they start acting up.. I haven't had a terrible episode, since I started this routine.

Today I awoke at 4am with THE pain, and as I lay in bed, unable to sleep, I was thinking that IF I used Apple Cider Vinegar (the good stuff) on a cotton swab, and wiped the inner nose area, It might help stop the infections..

What do you think? Anyone else try this? Think it will work? Worth a try? Or NO, you crazy woman you can't do that??? LOL --Any ideas, suggestions or advice is welcome.. Thank you Dixie

I would find some local raw honey to start with and dose daily. I would also eliminate as much as possible dairy, complex sugars, preservatives, dye coloring, MSG, and white flour products from my diet. I would start a daily dose of Olive Leaf Extract capsules, a natural anti-fungal.

This approach has worked like a charm for my youngest, who had his sinuses scraped, deviated septum repaired, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy...all at the tender age of 3 1/2 , for the same symptoms you are describing. After starting life with repeated antibiotic and allergy med usage, I can tell you that he hasn't had a cold, severe allergy attack, or taken antibiotics for 13 years now.

Start looking for ways to remove molds and other potential allergens and irritants like smoke, dust, pet dander from your environment. Underpads of carpets are a good culprit for these.

As ACV has acetic acid in it and tends to irritate tender mucosa, I would hesitate to flush my nasal passages with it right now. Your nasal passages are inflamed already. Saline sprays and flushes can soothe, as we are naturally composed of salt water and the fluid isn't a foreign object.

Thank you for your reply.. I am a beekeeper and eat my honey daily. I eat as organic as possible, raising 99% of our own food--including our meat. I do use sugar, but have taken a yr. off of it and it did not help. We do not have carpet.....but I do have dogs in the house.. They will be here until I die.. I change my bedding daily, quilts are washed weekly. I do use the line for drying clothes on nice days. I will try the olive leaf extract and try to reduce my dairy intake..I haven't tried that one yet..

I had not thought about the ACV irrating my passages even more...Just thinking of anything I haven't tried before..

Thank you again..

Do you wear glasses? The reason I ask is, that I used to wear glasses, the coke bottle kind. I had chronic sinus infections. Then about three years ago I got Lasic surgery on my eyes and within a month my headaches went away. I rarely get a sinus infection anymore and then only a mild one.
Apparently the weight of my glasses squooshed my nasal passages and made it difficult for me to breath and for everything to function properly.
I had also been advised to have surgery on my nasal passages to help with the sinus infection. Seems that I needed surgery allright, but on a different part of my face. Now I can see and I can breathe and don't have sinus infections , nor the bad headaches that used to accompany them.

LOOOOVE my netti pot! Got it at Walmart, they are available at many pharmacies. Saline rinses for the sinuses.

I have also used the steam method, putting white vinegar and essential oils (lavendar and rosemary, or eucalyptus) and holding a dish towel over the bowl so I can breath in the steam.

I haven't had a sinus infection in years now.

Have you ever had your vitamin D levels checked? A low D level can leave you open to chronic infections.

I like a big steaming bowl of hot peppermint water. With the towel....LOL---it honestly opens up the face. I get the sinus trouble also. I don't have a clue what is killing me but something is always blooming and tons of animals.....heck we can't get away from "it"--whatever it is that is getting us...LOL-LOL

I don't like saline. Burns my insides of the passages and such. I stopped that one.

Pressure changes from storms nails me also. If that big storm is coming I feel the pressure in the face also. I know to prevent then..LOL---you sure can tell they are coming! Ugh

take care...I feel for you cause I know!!!

I started taking 4000units of Vitamin D, mid Jan. and I take calcium with vitamin D (3). It's the only meds I take --other than the seasonal allergy meds.

No glasses but I do wear contacts and I have tried not wearing them for months at a time..No change in the sinus...

I'll have to try the steaming water with peppermint or eucalytus--I have read both are good for cleaning/clearing air passages..

Sometimes surgery is the way to go. For years I was getting 3-4 nasty sinus infections every year. I needed a minimum of 30 days of antibiotics each time. Two years ago I had a CAT scan and it turned out the sinus on one side of my face was completely blocked. Surgery opened it back up and cleaned it out. Until this year I hadn't had an infection, 2 wonderfully free years!!!!

The latest one was behind my left eye and required 5 weeks of antibiotics. I don't know yet if it worked, I got back in 10 more days for the ENT to check me out. I may require another CAT scan. Sometimes an infection just won't go away without surgery.

I was plagued with sinus infections for many years back in the late 80's and early 90's. I took antibiotics more than I can remember and have paid the price for doing that also.

Finally I figured out that they were caused by allergy to air borne pollens...so as I started to get a grip on that my rate of infection occurrance decreased but I still got them.

Then I started to use homeopathy. I have cured many a sinus infection with homeopathy now. and I mean cure and often in hours or over night!

I went on to get a better grasp on the allergy issue and now I haven't had a sinus infection in 6 years nor an allergy issue for 4 years.

Both of my sons had sinus problems when they were young and homeopathy cured them both in short order, after the ENT doc had told us they would be on multiple medications for a very long time. You can read my account of their cure here:
http://www.healthsalon.org/417/chronic-sinus-and-homeopathy/

I strongly recommend that you find a homeopath and work with him/her for about 6 months, but often the cure is found much much faster.
