Well, one of my Spitz chicks was missing ... no sign anywhere.

Finally found the corpse, of course it was my favorite of them, looked super promising for breeding.

It must have gotten on the dog kennel, then slid down behind it and gotten stuck??

Stupid freak stupid death.

Sigh.

Those young ones seem to get into trouble! I had two jump into a tall water trough, not their shallow one, early in summer. Didn't get out. 😔 Things happen. Sorry.

How is it never the ones we are planning to cull?

I remember years back, standing with kid 2, we were looking over the flock of grow outs deciding which would be best for breeding. I pointed to one pullet that was looking pretty impressive. I said we should name her something. Kid said, well, now that she is named, she is bound to die.

sad, but funny...

as for dandelions and other lawn weeds, we've found that the bunnies really go after some of those. sadly it doesn't look like anything really likes Creeping Charlie or crab grass. i did a pretty good job of removing the Creeping Charlie out front this past season so it will be interesting to see what comes back this winter and next spring. no sign of any of it yet. i checked the other day.

I've been catching up on reading your journal. I'm in Wisconsin, so I enjoy comparing winters. My 6 year old son loves Molly of Denali on PBS Kids and is sure he will move to Alaska. 🤣

Why thank you!

I have more info in my other journal on the sister site backyard herds. I joined there years before I joined here.

And now that I have 2.... I am never sure where I want to add stuff. :idunno
