Boys and magnifying glasses! DH says the same thing and there wasn't a safe magnifying glass anywhere when DS was young.

plus i couldn't see that great to begin with so having a magnifying glass was great! also i had a small microscope and wish i still had it now. there's so much fun stuff to look at. :)

I had a micrscope too--i would spend hours with it. Getting stuff from outside or the swamp and watching--so cool.

That's not cheating! Knowing what works can be lifesaving. All survival skills are knowledge that is lifesaving. We just never know when we will need to use these.

And, certain wood on wood friction can start a fire. Harder but can.

Once you get a spark, feed it slowly. Don't smother it out. Learn to bank your fire so it can be reignited.
