Anyone ever use salmon berries?

Our property is covered with a plant that grows what people around here call salmon berries or bear berries. They are orange except for when overripe, when they are red.

They are pretty mild, not much sweetness to them. Color is interesting however. Anyone ever use them?

I used to live where there were lots of salmon berries. They look like large rasberries. I loved them to bits. I made jam and pie with them. You gotta remember that they are mostly water though or your pies get runnier than you may like. You're one lucky girl.

Not sure why I missed this response when it was more recent.
How did you alter a recipe to make up for them not being very sweet? Is the taste better with a lot of sugar?
Now of course they are no longer on the trees, but we've been having our goats clear this bushes out because they have thorns and there are so many of the bushes. Maybe I should change my mind!
