I knew how years ago but it has easily been close to 20 yrs since I have picked up a hook! I tried my hand at knitting last year ....what a flop. Man that is a lot of tedious work. As we would sit and watch tv at night I would frequently tell my hubby 'This knitting crap is NOT fun!'.

But now with the holidays sneaking up on my I busted out my holiday colored yard that I bought last year and am again 'attempting' to knit a couple of wash cloths.

What I would love to do is make some nice scarves for my girls and my mom. I figure if I get a nice big crochet hook I could bust out 4 decent scarves by Christmas.

So my question is....does anyone have any favorite on line resources? I need to figure out how much yarn I need per scarf and what size hook to get. I want to make nice wide scarves because the ones my girls have are too thin to properly cover up a chilly neck!

Every year when the weather turns cool I pick up my bag of yarn and start back in on the afgan I've been making for about 4 years. At the rate I'm working on it, I'll be done about the time TSHTF :D

I'll work on it a while, maybe make some new potholders or a hat or two, then I drop it again for some other interest. I was never able to pick up knitting, crocheting seemed to come naturally though. My granny makes beautiful lace with sewing thread and the tiniest needles. I'm more utilitarian with my patterns.

Although they don't have a calculator (that I know of) I like the patterns on lionbrand.com. There are lots of freebies.

Oh thank you....lionbrand seems to have a lot to offer!

I wonder why they have this goofy woman in this particular scarf....such a turn off she makes the scarf look bad!

I think a lot of the pictures came from their catalogs and well, are rather... dated

That lady does look rather scary...

Heavy metal collar, belt & gauntlets.
And I quote "Call them what you will -- wristlets, wrist warmers, fingerless gloves, wristers, or driving gloves -- they're all fashionable. Pair with a matching belt and collar for a true statement.

 :gig  :gig

Oh I love the granny squares! Very colorful. How about making it with fewer colors though? The rounds don't take that much yarn each.

Yeah I suppose it would be easier and less costly to use less colors, but the reality it that I need to start on something simple!

How about a shawl for an adult in hospice or project Linus blanket for a child who is seriously ill?

On RedHeart.com they have some easy crochet tote bags, rugs, wraps or throws

ETA: My ds' dgf is making me socks, if she can figure out the gusset! I used to knit and crochet all the time. Maybe I'll dig out the needles and hooks again. But I really should start that rag rug project I didn't do last winter. :D
