I've been reading on this breed and am looking to start a flock this year. Of course being an endangered breed makes them hard to get. The Garfield Farm Museum near Chicago will be selling some this year and will ship chicks. I was hoping to find someone in S.E. Michigan that I could drive to, anyone know about anyone in my area?
From what I've read they are good foragers and I have 10 acres, of which 6 is wooded. I am uncertain about going full free range, there could be some predator problems in the back part of the property. This year I would be happy running them within 200-300 feet of the house.
Another option would be getting eggs and hatching them, but I have no experience with this. I've been researching incubators and am confused by the differences (circulated vs. static air), can someone give me the basics or point me to a link? I've tried reading it on some other web sites and the description seams overly complicated.
Thanks,
Jerry
