Annmarie posted an apple pie filling that I would like to make. My favorite apple pie recipe calls for pouring caramel sauce over the top and into the holes in the top crust...it is delish!
I wonder if I can add hot caramel sauce to the apple pie filling prior to canning? It is brown sugar, butter and heavy cream. Can anyone give me some advice?

I sure wouldn't, unless you're going to pressure can it (and I don't know what that would do with the apples). The only reason that apple pie filling can be waterbath-canned is that there is virtually nothing in it besides apples, water and sugar, thus it is acidic enough (possibly with a leetle bit of help) to avoid botulism risk. Something with butter and cream in it I would SERIOUSLY doubt would be acidic enough.

JMHO, good luck,

Pat

You might be able to freeze it. But then you want to watch that it doesn't crystalize and turn to sugar. Hope that make sense to you.
I wouldn't can it either.
Contact your county extension agency and see what they have to say about it.
