A lady in the village (I don't know who she is! I need to go find and thank her :love) sent me a bag full of apples from her tree with instructions to "make apple pie" with it. It's been too many years since I've done that. I must admit I do not have a recipe in mind... I know I can find about 1,000 recipes in seconds with Google, but I thought I'd ask you all first. Have you guys and ladies got a really good recipe or two to share?

I actually don't make apple pie but that is so sweet! What a cool lady!

Lucky lucky you!

Apple Pie

9" double pie crust
7-8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, sliced, and cored
1 stick butter
3 T flour
1/4 c water
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1 heaping t cinnamon
1/4 t nutmeg
1 t Vanilla

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Place apples in large bowl. Set aside.

In medium saucepan, melt butter. Add flour, mix well, forming a paste. Add water, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Vanilla. Mix well. Bring to boil for 1 minute. Reduce heat to simmer for 1 minute.

Remove from heat and reserve 1/3 c of filling for pie crust. Add remaining filling to apples. Toss well.

Pour apples into crust. It will mound very high. Top with 2nd crust. Brush with remaining filling.

Cover pie loosely with foil (Spray foil with Pam to keep pie from sticking). Place pie on cookie sheet and bake at 425 degrees 10-12 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees for another 50 minutes. Remove foil during the last 10 minutes. Pie is done when crust is golden-brown and apples are soft when pierced.

Caramel Crunch Apple Pie

TOPPING:
1/4 c flour
1/3 c packed brown sugar
2 T butter or margarine, softened
1/2 t cinnamon

PIE:

6 c sliced peeled baking apples
1 T lemon juice
1/2 c sugar
3 T flour
1/2 t cinnamon
1 unbaked 9" pastry shell
28 caramels
5 oz. evaporated milk

Combine flour, brown sugar, butter and cinnamon; spread into an ungreased 8" square baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool; crumble and set aside.

Sprinkle apples with lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon; toss with apples. Place apples in pie shell. Cut a circle of foil to cover apples but NOT the edge of pastry; place over pie.
Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees; bake for 35 minutes or until apples are tender. Meanwhile, in a saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with milk, stirring frequently. Remove foil from pie. Pour caramel mixture over apples. Sprinkle with topping; return to the oven for 5 minutes. Serve warm.

Thanks for the recipes @TexasLisa! I've been so busy the last 2 days I didn't get round to the pie yet, but I'll see how the rest of the weekend goes and get some in the oven.

I make apple pies with apples from the trees out back of our house. I use this recipe to make the crust http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/i...st-recipe.html and this recipe to make the pie http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grandma-oples-apple-pie/ the only thing I do different is I don't make a lattice work crust and I pour the sauce over the apples then add the top crust.

They always turn out good and don't last long either. Please dont laugh at my crust work there... remember I'm a guy who was never taught to cook. Both my mother and wife shoe me out of the kitchen although my wife is getting better at letting me watch and cook a little. my pies may look like crap but they taste good.

those crusts look as good as any I've ever done. I'm not great with crusts either, but it's the inside that's important, right?
