I had asparagus beetles last year (actually every plant in the garden had a nemesis last year :/) so I'm looking more closely at preventative methods now. My dad said Grampa used to burn the leftovers off his patch early in spring before it started growing, but didn't know why. It's too late for that now anyway.
Any good old country advice about beetles? I have been reading and haven't found anything useful.

As usual, Grampa was right. You need to remove he spent foliage every year, burning it is the best. That's about the only thing I've heard of regarding asparagus and beetles.

We used to have a bad infestation every year also. I used to go and squish the larvae on the plants. But I just realized, that since we let the chickens in the beds once the asparagus is tall enough, we don't have asparagus beetles anymore.
Jst one more good reason to have those chickens  Like I need another reason
