Not sure where they live around here, but if you're outside at dusk you can see them flying around, going after the bugs.

Same here. I usually have 2 circling the yard in the evening. However, IMO, the greatest evening bug patrol is the armies of dragon flies.

I am afraid of bats because:
1.) I was taught to be afraid of them
2.) because they can carry rabies.
3.) They fly around too close to my head. I had a boy throw a toad and it got stuck in my hair when I was 12, don't want to experience that with a bat at any age.
4.) They are portrayed as creepy

5.) Because I am a BIG, OLE SCARDY CAT!!

i'm hoping for the future instead of targetting them negatively that people will learn more about them and help them through vaccinations to help reduce the worst of the diseases. they are such strong communal creatures that they can have a very large number of communal diseases that can rapidly spread.

i think the same about mosquitoes too. we shouldn't be eradicating creatures that are a large part of our biological food chain, instead we should be learning as much as possible and helping them out.

like perhaps if we learned how to make it so that if they bit us it didn't itch or spread diseases i wouldn't care and would gladly give them a fair share of my blood. or perhaps we could have fake bloody arms around that they can bite and feed off of that are just there for them and so they don't have to feed off us, etc. there's so much more that can be done instead of eradication/poisoning...
