Wow! That is the nicest raised garden I have ever seen! And it even has a playpen for the kiddos while mom is busy planting! Or it can be a dog pen, rabbit yard...hmmm now that is multifunctional!

I wish the thread were able to be viewed. The man who built this had "help" from his four year old who has Down syndrome. As does his 26 year old daughter. He had tons of pictures, including his kids playing in the center of the donut! Too many for me to copy, I am afraid.

Ok that's it. No more straight beds. That is just the coolest thing ever. And talk about accessibility. My sil put in raised beds at her Old Folks Home. This would have been perfect for a couple of her courtyards. Nice and tall with plenty of space.

Do you know if he used some kind of filler or is there soil all the way to the ground?

How awesome!!! Thanks for sharing!

I looked it up, and here is his price list, which may help figure out amounts.

Reclaimed pallet timbers: $200
Manure $225
Topsoil $40
Peat Moss $80
Worm castings & vermicompost $0 (We own the worm farm)
Straw $8
Hardware $40
Stain $24

... a bit over $600.00, total. Now that does not include about 150 hours in labor, and the worm castings and vermicompost would go for another $2,000 easy... but we are very happy with actual cash out-of-pocket.

I would say that to us, this bed is a good example of frugalness... it might LOOK expensive, but we leveraged what we had on hand, and then added our own time and skills.

:ep That's a lot of money for a raised bed.

I use redwood and I don't spend any where near that. But my manure is free and I make my beds more shallow.

I am glad it works for them.

Oh, I doubt many people could ever afford it! That's why we dream.
