Lori, my NHs are doing wonderfully in the cold weather! I thought they might have problems because they are a single comb type, but no frost bite yet. As for eating? I haven't had one for eating yet, but Joel Salatin uses them for his laying and processes the older hens for sale for stewing hens, so they must taste okay in that department.
FF, correct again! Partridge Rocks are another heritage breed of very pretty, brown egg laying, heavy breed of chicken. The hens are a beautifully barred and speckled brown and the roos are vibrant red, green, black and purple. Very pretty birds all around and supposed to be good broodies.

I was getting desparate and was piling up eggs in containers in the fridge! And my fridge is very small, so this was getting out of hand....

She has never gone broody, but she lays 4 eggs a week, and is almost 3 years old. She has a great personality and is very calm and friendly, too.
