Bee~ Journal of then...

Way to go Bee.

We did this once. I say we because the chicken helped. I put my hen in an area by herself and fixed it so she could have food and water handy. I checked her toward the end of the hatching date and the eggs were gone. I was told that a snake got in there and got them so I moved her into a snake proof cage and started over with a new batch of eggs. All went well.

Congratulation to you and your hen. :celebrate

Three chicks hatched and the same one still struggling to get out of the egg....must admit I helped a little...couldn't resist. No more pips yet....4 eggs to go! Went out to check on them and one of the squirmy peeps had fallen out of the nest and was making an awful racket! Sounded like a whole mess of chicks out there.....no, just one big, mouthed little fella.

Broody is very, very desparate to stay on the brood right now....she fought like anything to get back on the nest while I was examining the eggs and babies.

Bee, sounds like she is going to be a good Mama!!

;)

Congratulations!!!!!

Hey, Aly....one of the chicks is having a real slow time of getting out of the shell....he's been working in it for two days. Should I help or will this only hurt him? :idunno

congrats on the chicks! I just wanted to let you know that we just killed our EE roo, Big Boy, this morning for the same reason as yours...roughing up the girls. I've got hens that are bald on their backs and wings and the tops of their heads. I've got hens that run and hid under a wheel barrow when they saw him coming and he also attacked hubby a few times. I got up this morning and told DH that I approved and he did the deed....wasn't bad eatin' either!

Congratulations, Bee!

A good mama hen is worth a ton of gold, and it sounds like your hen is going to be just that.

We never help any chick hatch. We figure if they are strong enough to make it through, they will be healthier in the long run.

Way to go!! :thumbsup Its really not worth it to suffer a bully, is it? Not with all the very nice roos available out there. My other two are very nice and easy to work with.

Keljonma, I helped the little fella, as he seemed too dried out to make it the rest of the way. He does appear weaker than the rest and she was stepping all over them today, so I don't put much on his chances of survival.

Guess what? Like perfect timing.....I have a BO trying to go broody on me today! I'll give her a week to prove she is serious. Maybe by then I can fix up some other arrangement for my little new family and this BO can have the broody pen/nest.

Congrats on the broody!!! I had a broody and all but two of her eggs were duds, she kicked them out of the nest. She had two that formed into chicks but died! :( I hope it goes better next time for her!!

I havent had the time to be on here much so I know I've missed some great info from your thread! :/ :D

Nah! Just the usual musings of a mind that won't shut down, Okie!

Will be getting my sheep maybe by next week, though, and I can barely sit still! They are so very beautiful, that I can't wait to show them off to passersby. :D

Once you have your sheep, you'll see how fast I show up on your doorstep :P
