Beekissed, I think you got it all wrong.

It's YOU who has everything, and they have nothing. ;)

I agree! That's why its so nice to be able to come on here and vent a little and know that there are folks that understand.

If I were to tell that to the people at work they would look at me like I had a third eye!!! I can tell it to you all and you understand...you've even done the very same things! THAT is priceless. Isn't that what we all crave, really? Someone to be a witness to our lives. Someone to share a feeling...really share it. :)
I love the tell the people at my work what a pleasure I get out of my life, my home, my family, my chickens....I bring the eggs to share and sell...and they often tease me and wonder where I find the time, or how I do it. Let them. They can have their Tupperware and Pampered Chef parties. I have other things to do! Maybe I do have a third eye?? I get a kick out of being me - and they arent going to fire me at my job for being different, I have that to be thankful for!! I dont care what they think, the townies....but I agree, it is nice to have someplace like this forum to share our stories as well!

Thats what I call folks, those that live in town, that have totally different lifestyles and timeframes, that have no idea about nature, conservation, taking care of themselves or sometimes reality?

Some people I work with are fanatics about things, for example a couple are really into bicycling, very serious riders, they think everone should just ride a bike. (Its 14 miles to town for me, and I have kids - and take home 200+ pounds of feed a week). These people claim that they're into the peace and quiet of "nature" there's nothing but them and the road...they're all natural, they want to save the world and dont use gas....but you know, they wouldnt scrape chicken poop out of coop if their lives depended on it. And they may buy their vegetables at the Farmers Market, but God Forbid should they get their hands dirty in their yard growing anything for themselves :) There are so many layers of natural and nature!!!

Yeah, sure, they may think I'm nuts...Cause I live so far out of town, and I like chickens. :D But they sure do like buying my fresh eggs!

Punkin, I do think that is what this is. Remember that song, "Walkin' on Sunshine"? That's what it feels like! I live in a very beautiful area and I just can't stop looking at all the beauty around me...sometimes I almost run off the road gawking at stuff! :P I come home to my old, scruffy rental house and marvel at how warm and inviting it is when you walk through the door. How beautiful the chickens look scattered over the orchard like pretty confetti. How the dogs look as they play and run and tussle....pure joy in every leap! That deep sense of satisfaction when you find nests full of warm, brown eggs...I practically float to the house with all the eggs in my pockets!

If I were to tell that to the people at work they would look at me like I had a third eye!!! I can tell it to you all and you understand...you've even done the very same things! I do remember that song and that is a good description. Sometimes when you see all the natural beauty around you, you just want to bust with gratefulness. A few months ago I saw a beautiful deer in the clearing as I was going up to open the chickens coop. The mist was hanging around the top of the hay, with rays of sunshine dappling through the leaves overhead. I just whispered a silent prayer thanking God for letting me see it. That was a great gift.

(Humming Walking on Sunshine cause I can't get it out of my head)

See! I knew you all would understand!!! Punkin, me too! :D <I'm walkin' on sunshine, ooooh-ohh-oh, I'm walkin' on sunshine....>

Dace: Joel Salatin has written a few books~You Can Farm, Salad Bar Beef, and a few others I can't think of the title for right now...I've read all but his most recent, called "Everything I Want to Do is Illegal". He practices grass farming and raises multi-tiered livestock and all his reasons for the practices he has developed are very, very well researched and explained in detail.

The man is pretty darn smart, if somewhat opinionated for most folks. I don't really care, as long as I learn his methods and benefit from all the hands on experimenting he has done. I also read a book he co-wrote about Farmer's Markets and how to price your produce, what types of venues and produce are most profitable and all the value added products that yield the most profit.

FC, I like "the townies"! The bikers you describe I like to call hillbilly yuppies around here! :D You know....city folk who made their big money and moved to the country to "get away from it all". Shop at the local farmer's market, spend millions remaking their 1800's mansions, bike and hike and vacation in the Caymens...but are very, very into preserving the environment and political movers and shakers on the county board. Soooo amusing!

Rosajrms! Welcome to the SS, home of the hippies, homesteaders and happiness gurus! :D Nope, the folks don't live off the grid anymore....Dad got mad because none of his boys wanted to build back on the farm and do the do, so he sold most of it. Still lives beside it and bemoans the fact that he sold it~ every day!

Mom and I were discussing an exciting new project today! With all the interest lately in the back to the land lifestyle, I think she should document our own adventure with off-grid living and stock it with the photos we took.

We look back on it now and it all seems a dream that maybe happened to other people! We couldn't believe how we lived and managed that lifestyle...when we tell people, we get the impression they don't believe us..not one iota!

It would certainly be an interesting read, that's for sure! We had been discussing the articles in the new CS mag and comparing these experiences with our own.

Why not write a small book? My sis just wrote a child's book that is starting to get some interests with the publishers and bringing in some serious cash, so why not us? :D
