that is great you could help that family as you hoped! and those who contributed can feel they surely helped someone in their time of need....everyone feels good!

Beekissed, God helps those who help themselves. He knew you could not do it alone so he waited until you handed it over, then he touched all the other peoples hearts that contributed, to make sure they could see the right thing to do. Good job Beekissed!

Well, the rush is over and the anti-climactic feeling of the day after Christmas has set in. I had to call off work today so my son could put a new alternator on the vehicle (first malfunction since purchase 3 years ago!). I didn't like calling off work, as I rarely ever do, but it felt kind of good to let the world turn without me today and have a pajama day.
I just thank God that Eli is handy with vehicles....must come natural as noone in my family, other than my mom, has an aptitude for auto repair. His dad was a mechanic but he's never met him, so its definitely in the genes. I wouldn't have had the money to take it to a garage right now and I couldn't work without it, so its a real blessing.
Now is the time, folks, to gear up for SS projects for the new year to come!!!! Tomorrow its supposed to be around 65-70s and sunny, so I think we will spend the morning redesigning my setup in the coop and making plans to sink posts for the new lean-to shed I want to build before spring. It will come in real handy in so many ways and will create a place to pen up livestock, if needed.
I hope to build in a feed box with wood stanchions so I can restrain the sheep, if need be. I may, or may not, have enough scrap lumber to complete this project, so I may have to make a trip to the lumber mill to buy some "seconds" ~a large bundle of lumber for $20.
I hope the seed catalogs come soon...I've only received one so far and I rarely order from that one. Time to order seeds!!!!

Well, Bee, you sure had a blessed Christmas! That alternator is probably God telling you to take one day for yourself... so enjoy it!
We've only gotten the Jung's catalogue so far... kind of surprised, because I haven't ordered from them in two years.

Jung was the one I received also. They have the prettiest pictures of any of the catalogs....and the highest prices!!! I think I ordered some of my pumpkin seeds from them and will likely do so again. I saved some seeds but don't want to trust that I have done so correctly. I will plant some of mine and some of theirs and see how well mine do in comparison. Then, next year, if mine do well, I won't be ordering as many seeds.
I read where you had to ferment the seeds, then dry them out, then store. I will tell you the smell generated by the fermented seeds was enough to turn my gut!
Some of the seeds are brownish and some white. I plan to only plant the white ones, as this is how the boughten ones looked also.

I ask cuz my father saved and planted all kinds of squash and pumpkins seeds, all he did was dry them........just wondering.

Well, I had fermented some seeds from my Rouge Detampes(sp) pumpkins, as I had read in Countryside to first ferment by putting the seeds in a jar of water, letting them ferment, then rinsing and drying well. Store in glass jar in fridge or freezer. I had let these pumpkins get a little....er...ripe....before extracting the seeds, so I'm sure some of the seeds were affected(brown) and possibly too far gone to salvage. I don't know why now that it was suggested to ferment the seeds, I don't remember.
I guess I will find out if this is effective when I plant these seeds.

Actually, its supposed to mimic conditions that are found in nature. If you think about it, it sounds right. Seeds sort of get treated to wet conditions in the fall, freezing in the winter, thaw in the spring(possibly fermenting in rotten fruit or vegetation?) and growing from this process. I don't know, I'm no expert on it, that's for sure!PamsPride said:
