Bee, our discussion of grass inspired me to bring my goat Mya out for a walk on a leash today, where I pointed out nice dandelions and tufts of lush grass for her! I thought of you rolling in it!!!

I can almost see that too!! FUNNY!

I just got home from job #2 bone tired.

I'll even break down and buy bologna and store bought bread for the boys so I won't have to prepare any food. They can just run in and have a sandwich of processed chemically tainted cow,pig, and chicken offal and white preservative-laden sugar dough~I don't care, as long as they are quick and don't get bogged down in the eating process.

Call the food police!!! Bee is TORTURING HER KIDS!!!
I have been known to do this as well....more often than I would admit of course!

In more ways than one......

I think everyone tends to stuff their animals now days. I don't often see any "fit" pets anymore....they are all so very obese. I have to regulate my own dogs carefully to see that they don't get thick...wish someone would do the same for me! All my sis's dogs and cats are bursting out of their skins with fat...they all look so uncomfortable! With all those feathers, I couldn't tell my ladies were getting so fat.

FF, I will do the same thing....drag home dead tired and read a post on this forum that gives me a belly laugh! I love it! Just did that today on Justusnak's thread!

I used to wish I was a horse. We kept ours so healthy, worried about their parasites and quality of hay, spent hours rubbing and brushing on them, never overworked them, yet kept them properly exercised. They were always glossy and muscled.

We on the other hand were usually dirty and tired and just grabbed any old thing to stick in our mouths to keep us fed.

That is sooooo funny! I was just today telling my sons that everyone thinks animals are dumb but you don't see anyone feeding us and cleaning up our poop while we run around all day on the sweet, green grass! We always sit around and marvel at how good our animals have it....freedom, clean water, good food, lazy day after lazy day....ahhhhh, that we should be so lucky. :/

Me, too!!!

I will soon be measuring out the grain for the chickens and tossing it to them in the mornings only, and only what they clean up pretty quick. Taking down the hanging feeder for squirrel season. They spend all day stealing and burying the grain! Even when I toss it to the girls, I have had chipmunks run right between my feet in their rush to stuff their faces with grain!

I found that this method cut grain consumption in half. I also had to stop dh from feeding, as he would throw POUNDS out and the fat goats would get fatter and fatter! And he would not scatter it far enough, which also gave the goats the advantage.

It is also great chicken therapy, a great way to start the day. They can find their own food for filling their crops for bedtime, grass and bugs.

My picture of my "riding lawn mower" was taken during morning chicken therapy! You can see in the picture that everyone is looking at me very expectantly! So cute!

Free, I do it just the opposite here. I feed in the evening when I gather eggs. I think giving the food later encourages them to forage more all day, and eat less boughten food. It also gives them a full belly when they go to bed, just in case they didn't forage enough.

But, as with your hubby, my son has been doing the feeding around midday lately and feeding waaaay too much! I think he feels that, since he's a big eater, the chickens should be also!

I laid down the law today. I noticed lately that I was having to buy way more feed than usual.....

I agree with your philosophy on feeding in the evening, Bee, but I am usually working in the afternoon, (when clients get out of work, they come see me) so to be consistant, I feed in the morning. I also have to milk at 9-10 morning and evening, to be consistant.

One day I will have a more normal schedule, I hope! It is a goal!

The city lady that visited today asked me how I get any sleep with all that noise going on!! I had to explain that the noise she is hearing is like music to my ears, that, at night, the birds are nestled soundly on their roosts and all I hear is the owls hooting and the occasional dog bark, and that I much prefer the hens cackling to sirens blaring, traffic rumbling by, and the light and sound polution of the city.

She looked at me like I had lost my mind.....maybe I have, but if this is lost, I'm not going to bother looking for it!

That's exactly how I feel - funny how what we consider quiet city folks consider noisy

Well I ... for one "city person" am sick to death of traffic noises, car horns, ambulances and ... MOST ESPECIALLY ... the boom, boom, bop - boom, boom, bop - boom, boom, bop - of rap music in passing cars that is SO LOUD the windows on the house rattle all the while the car is on my BLOCK!

And you think your neighbors need to learn a thing or two, Bee. :/


I for one will take even the din of my sister's 50 odd guinea fowl over the city noise.
