So I've got almost 2 quarts of strawberries fresh from the farm a nd about the same of frozen blueberries from last year and I wanna make mixed berry jam. This will be my first time canning and I wanna ask the pros, cause I plan on doing it tomorrow. First: pectin or not? I've found dozens of recipes out there that call for corn syrup instead of pectin and I don't use high fructose-blah! Also: sugar ratio? Some recipes call for about half fruit half sugar others are more along the lines of 2 cups sugar-4 cups fruit... Which works/tastes better?

Since you are just starting out in your adventure of canning I would highly recommend using a pectin recipe for best results. I would never can with HFCS it is horrible for you and in so many foods already.
I usually reduce the sugar amount in most jams/jelly but not a lot since it helps them set up properly.

This is a great recipe and you could just use two berry types to make

I used all the berries, reduced the sugar by a cup, The family loved it!
