I found this out the hard way.
Either play a recording of baby chicks by her nest. or set a box of chicks next to her. She will no longer be broody after a couple hours of hearing them.

LOL..... mine broke when I started remodeling the coop. I got yelled at for 10 straight minutes after she left the nest, but at least I don't have to fight her for the eggs now. LOL

I like the idea of chick sounds.... I wonder if they start looking for the chicks?

Maybe it doesn't matter because it is the hormonal signal to stop being broody.

I always cage them in a wire bottom cage with no bedding, just food and water. That will break them up pronto!

I threw mine in with the rabbit, after two days of them fighting eachother she is no longer broody. Ironically I found out how incredibly smart she is (she now lays her egg first thing in the AM, and searches for me to let this be known) but that's another story for another time.

I was thinking the same thing! But, that sounds like a great idea and one that is less traumatic for the hen. Just fool her into thinking the eggs already hatched!
