Oh man - that stinks! There are times when DH has to test 4 or 5 times a day...and you are right ... those little strips are a budget buster for sure. Hope that the pharmacist can help you out there.
slowly but surely getting caught up with all of youall's journals. every time i read yours Britesea you make me hungry, i learn so much from all you do. thank you. my sil is a vet and gets his diabetic supplies from the VA and they send him enough strips to test 2x a day and he is stable. you do need to talk to your doc and pharmacist to see if you can get them to override that. take them your journal that shows that you levels aren't stable. please don't get me started on the VA and the level of care they give the people who have served this country.... I'm over weight and diabetic too and find that change in diet, stress and all kinds of things make a difference. we can cheer each other on with our weight loss goals. yea! you on getting started
I've got an appointment today with one of the nurses to talk about my diabetes and the sudden up-tic of blood sugar levels. I hope they don't just increase my metformin. I should be able to make an appointment with the pharmacist while I'm there as well.
I went in yesterday for a chest x ray and a pulmonary function test because they were concerned about my oxygen levels. For part of the test they gave me some albuterol and I noticed that I was able to walk down the halls afterward quite briskly without becoming short of breath... I know it was an artificial "high" but it sure was nice for the short while it was in effect.
I ate a little more than usual yesterday, and didn't lose any weight maybe today or tomorrow.
Well, gotta head out for my Physical Therapy appointment and the then the VA.
I got to talk to the Diabetics Nurse at the VA; she confirmed that I had a pretty good handle on how to manage my diabetes. I finally have some numbers on the amount of carbs I should strive for at each meal. She told me that in all likelihood it was the stress of starting a new diet that caused my sugar to start going "wonky" and it will probably settle back down as my body gets used to the new eating style. She also agreed with me that checking my blood sugar a little more often would probably do two things: first, it would allow my to track patterns in sugar levels based on what I eat, and secondly, it might reduce the blood sugar by reducing the stress I'm feeling about it (kinda circular logic there). Anyway, she's authorized extending my prescription for test strips to once a day. Not perfect, but a great deal better than it was.
Hoping your feeling better very soon! It sucks when sugars go swinging D':
Weight loss is a battle, stick to it and you'll do awesome!! just remember as well- muscle weighs more than fat!
The therapy is helping a lot-- very little pain now, and that is mostly just achy muscles from using them more than usual. I'm drinking tons of water to flush out the toxins and stuff.
I lost another pound-- that makes 6 so far now. Yay!
